Pregnancy Test Kits - THEY LIE!!

Hi All,

I have been TTCing now for 3 months...desperate to have another baby and getting disappointed at each BFN and AF.

So this month I went out and dutifully bought all the PKs that say 'Test 5 days before your missed period' and '99% accurate' as I keep going through heaps of PKs each month (I just cant help myself).

Well this time I was feeling different for the first week after Oing thinking that I might be pregnant but maybe it was all just wishful thinking so I waited until it was 5 days before my period and did a test and it was BFN. No miniscule faint line..nothing. Got very sad and had a bottle of wine with DP and that weekend we have a few more wines as well.

Then I thought on the Monday...Bugger it...lets do another test 'cause I was still feeling funny but again BFN. No miniscule faint line..nothing.

Well DP and DS all went away this weekend on Thursday for 4 days to relex and enjoy some time together and I was supposed to get AF on Thursday....but I didnt. I didnt think much of it as I got two BFNs and thought that maybe I was late because I have been stressed....so DP and I have a few drinks. Next day no AF.....again not too worried as I got to BFN (as I have the previous two months) so I couldnt be pregnant...right? So DP and I had some more drinks (I know I sound like an alchoholic but I'm not really!).

So anyway as the story goes I got home Sunday...did a test and guess what?

BFP!!!!! :thumbsup:

Those damn tests lie!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it says 99% accurate but geez....twice it said it was negative and I feel bad that I had so much to drink as I really honestly believed I wasnt pregnant.

Morale of the story? Not sure but trust your instincts and relax. And maybe don't drink so much as you just could be pregnant!! ;)

this made me laugh sorry if it wasnt meant to be funny but this sounds very much like me with my DD i did a test 5 days before AF was due it was BFN (surprise surprise) and then one a few days later and it was a BFP

I think they just want to send you broke in buying tests thinking you can get a BFP so early!!

Same thing happened to me LOL I drank a bit too much on fathers day and would have been pregnant!! I told the dr and she said it is ok :laughing: as I was also worried cos a week earlier I took a few neaurofens and polaramine :eek:

Same with me except the blood test lied too!!!! so I drowned a few sorrows (not too many, but if I'd known I was preg I wouldn't have drank any alc...)

Then after more neg tests, finally one morning after I got up and growled at and insulted a guy delivering our shed I did another one and low and behold, all that time I had been preg!!!!!

Thank you all!! Yeah it is a funny story....the things we do!! At least with this one I can amuse the baby with funny stories of his/her conception! :laughing:

I have to say its good to know that there are some others out there just like me! :)

Your story sounds vaugely familiar.. I saw vaugely because there was a sea of alcohol at some point :p

Cobey wasn't picked up on the pee test - including the 'early' ones done a week after my period was due - until 6 weeks!

I know that they say not to drink while pregnant as it can cause problems to the unborn feotus, but I was 24 weeks when I found out I was pregnant, I was way over worked, and on my little spare time I would go out and drink to excess, everyweek, so I'd get little food and lotsa booze as I never thought I could be pregnant, no symptoms...etc...anyway, my son was born a healthy 8lb 11oz, and not a thing wrong with him...he was perfectly healthy...

So my point is dont be too down on yourself, as you didnt know..... I was shattered when I realised I was pregnant, and there was always the possibility that he would be affected in some way....but things dont always turn out bad....

Congratulations on your pregnancy, but as I said dont feel bad for what happened as you didnt know.....

Congratulations! We only started TTC this month, so I have had no alcohol just in case (and no neurofen or anything for a headache, just put up with it!). But just because you can't have something, it makes you really want it! I rarely drink, but the amount of times I have wanted one this month...:laughing:

I should have known I was pregnant as last time I got pregnant I CRAVED alcohol. It got to the point where I thought I was becoming an alcoholic. Then I found out I was pregnant. Same thing happened this time and both babies were conceived on an awful lot of bourbon. Bourbon is evil, it always sends me up the duff.:rolleyes:

I am actually in a similar position. I got a BFP on Saturday in a month I wasn't expecting to get pregnant. Now I'm thinking back to the Brie and seafood I ate on Father's day... I'm only 5 weeks, so hopefully it doesn't come back to haunt me!

again a similar story - after a BFN on fathers day I went out and had about 2 dozen oysters and champaign with a friend. BFP 2 days later. Ooops!

Congratulations :D I know what you mean too I kept convincing myself it was too quick to get pg being as I'd only had the IUD out 2 weeks ago so had a nice bottle of Red on friday night. Something made me test on Sat and yep BFP. :rolleyes: I felt awful that I'd drank the bottle of wine the night before but try not to worry nothing can pass over till after 6 weeks I think, my Doc laughed and said not to worry plenty have done alot worse.

Thank you all for your support and your funny stories!! Its funny how so many of us go through the same thing.

Dont you just wish you could find out on the day you actually concieve? It would make life a hell of a lot easier then having to wait and go without for 2 weeks just in case! :laughing:
