Not really, but my hubby does travel lots for work. His next trip is from 22nd may for a week, then he's home a week then gone again for four weeks.
Not for lots of money though unfortunately, I keep telling him if he's going to be away from us all the time he might as well go do some kind of fifo job with decent pay to make up for the abandonment! We work for ourselves so when he's away I'm full-on covering the business here, but I understand the weekends thing, I hate being a third wheel, the "solo mum" tagging along on friends' family weekends, and hate spending a weekend without seeing anyone else at all about equally much!
What part of Brissie are you in? We're near the airport :)

I totally get what you mean re: being the solo person tagging along! I feel like I'm a bit of a charity case sometimes when everyone else has their husbands or partners around. But for us it is a choice I just wish it was easier! I'm at Wishart but we're looking at moving closer to the airport so dh can get home more easily. How old are you lo's??

Yeah exactly!
I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run for you (hopefully for us too lol), do you have a timeframe that you're going to do it for?
Heh, we're looking at (maybe) moving down your way, funny if we swapped locations ;)
Mine are big now - 7yo and 5yo. 5yo has global delays so it's kind of like having a snuggly three year old still. My 7yo is such a mother hen, he's constantly on at me to have another baby for him to look after lol.

I'm moving up to Brisbane at the start of august and the hubby will be starting a new job working 3:1. Not sure how I will cope with him being away that long let alone doing by myself in a new city. I have 3 girls aged 4, 3 and 5 months.

Wow! You have some busy times ahead! I find the full week at home 24/7 makes up for the time away. Do you know if you're moving north or south suburbs?

Hi ladies!!! Fellow Brisbane FIFO mum here!!! I've just started a FB group called "Brisbane FIFO Families Group" in the hope of linking together as a community!! I myself struggle with the fact no-one understands the circumstances of FIFO life and would love to get our our unique community kickstarted!! I know there must be lots of us out there so hopefully we can find where everyone is hiding :-) join up so we can all chat xo

I'm jealous that you have a nice box to tick ;)
hi all
Nice to hear there's a few people in Brisbane in a FIFO situation. We're moving to Brisbane in Oct this year from Perth. Been in Perth for nearly 6 years now (originally from brisbane). We now have 2 daughters (3 & 1 yr old). Over here in Perth there are alot of people living the FIFO lifestyle and we've been a part of FIFO playgroup since having kids - it's been such a fantastic group to be a part of, just being around people who understand your situation without saying. Just thought I'd check out to see if there was any such similar group in Brisbane. I know Brisbane is a bigger place than Perth, so people are probably more widespread - but would be great to meet some others once we move back. My hubby works on a 9/5 roster...hopefully changing to 8/6 next year though.
Hi forgot to say....
Here's a website with some info that may interest you all - I know 'FIFO families' is on FB too. The lady who runs it has always lots of catch ups happening here in Perth and surrounds not sure if there any in Brissie as yet though. It's fairly new so I'm sure they'd love to hear of any catch ups or playgroups in Brissie.

Hi, fellow fifo mrs here too :) we live in ipswich and hubby is in Tom Price WA on a 4:1 roster. We have a dd whos nearly 4 and TTC which is hard when we only get 5 days a month together lol this is the 3rd yr he has been away
:)
Hello, its good to know there are other wives out there doing the same thing, my hubby does 4 : 1. It gets pretty lonely, school holidays was a struggle keeping the kids entertained all day everyday and not having hubby here to take over a little bit, even just to stick them in the bath to give me 10 mins peace!! Oh well love my boys dearly - 1 off to school tomorrow........sorry for the rant !!

My DF will be doing 4:1 in Worsley WA and I'm a bit anxious about it. We plan on doing it for 6-12 months just to get ahead financially.

Hi guys, my hubby is looking at 4 weeks on 1 week off in Adelaide. I don't really like the idea as it's only an extra $30k a year... Is that worth all the time he'll be away? That is the question..... It to mention the children support he pays goes up as does day care fees... So would be even less $

DP earns atleast double what he would get working in the city. So for us at the moment it's worth the extra money.
You really do have to weigh up if its worth it for you personally. You have to know why your doing it, because it can be really hard at times :(

Hi ladies! I started this thread what seems like years ago!! Since then my father passed away so dh gave up the FIFO thing for a while so I could have him around while I was trying to get to grips with everything. But we are now looking at getting back 'into the game' .... I'm nervous!!! Dh is looking at a 5/4/4/5 so it won't be too bad this time. Fingers crossed!!
