Hi!!!
My DS is 11weeks old, he was born fairly overdue and was quite dry from birth.
His skin, is peeling and is just generally extremely dry, as if it lacks alot of moisture.
I moisturise him once a day as well as lathering him in oil and suggested by my CHN. no matter what i do, within an hour or 2 after moiturising him, he is all dry again.
He also has cradle cap, which is just not budging, he has had this since 2 weeks old. once again as my CHN has suggested, oil, rubbing, combing etc... and its still not doing a damn thing!
All the products I use on him are organic and supposed to be gentle on the skin and most are fragrance free.
I just have NOOOO idea how to fix these problems... if someone can point me in the right direction it would be excellent.
TIA:hair:

They do seem to naturally "shed" a layer of skin after birth, but if he's extra dry I guess maybe try
- not bathing too frequently (only every 3 or 4 days - and then, only for a minute or two maximum)
- NO soap or shampoo of any kind in the bath (even organic :( )
- perhaps try a dispersible bath oil, water on its own can be very drying
- continue to moisturise moisturise moisturise!
I hated not using soaps and stuff because they make your baby smell so nice, but babies don't need them, and if there's skin issues it doesn't matter how organic/fragrance free/etc they are, they can still have an adverse affect.
Cradle cap - just continue with the gentle rubbing & moisturising - watch out if it gets weepy or smelly because it could get an infection (my DS did, it was awful :( ) It can continue for quite some time.
Good luck... Hope his skin improves soon.

Hi Mummajugs,
Have you tried the ABC baby range from Arbonne? the productts are all vegan and plant-based and i personally love them. *disclaimer: I am a consultant, but only because I love the products and love the discount!!
I have always had troubles with ezcema and since being pregnant, its been sooo bad! The ABC baby lotion has been my saviour and I wouldn't look back now.
Anyway, feel free to PM me if you would like more details or the website to check them out...and I promise im not one of the crazy consultants who will haunt you forever!

thanks ladies. :)
he is only bathed every 3-4 days as it is. which i feel horrible about, but i had to do the same with his sister also when she was little as she has eczema.
I never put anything in his bath.
I moisturise him with Bod for kids. and the only fragrance in that is rose oil i think it is, its all natural ingredients, it seems to be the only thing that he doesn't react to. ive tried others and he goes all spotty and gets frustrated, i think it may be itchy.
squishie, could you send me through some more info on the abc brand stuff. thanks hun :)
My son was also over due and extremely dry and we just added olive oil to his baths and also used to rub some onto his scalp to get rid of the cradle cap
My dd had skin issues until I stopped using anything at all on her. I moisturise after her bath with plain organic coconut oil. Her skin is just beautiful now.
The other day dh ran her bath and put natural baby bath wash in. Today her forehead was peeling because of it.
I've found QV bath oil & QV kids balm has worked well on my 8 month old DS who has eczema & very dry skin...

I second plain olive oil (though we massage with almond oil)
I'd cut out the moisturiser and just go with straight olive oil (in the bath water and then rubbed on him as often as necessary). It was the only thing that worked for DS1.
For the cradle cap, I found moogoo shampoo was fantastic. My 2yo still had it bad when his brother was born, despite regular olive oil treatments, and he also suffered from eczema. I'd tried many things for his eczema, and decided to give moogoo a go. I got the shampoo, the milk wash and some cream for his eczema.
By this stage his baby brother also had really noticeable cradle cap.
After the first time I used the shampoo, I Noticed that their cradle cap had gone from yellow looking to white, and was very soft and almost gooey.. After about 2 more washes I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were completely cradle cap free.
The moogoo also completely cleared up my sons eczema.
I have recently been reviewing a product from Aveeno which is formulated for babies with dry/sensitive skin and it is perfect for my son.

thanks everyone so much. im going to go out today and grab some olive oil, I have run out and only have canola, sunflower and peanut left.
The cradle cap is getting much worse :( Last night when he was feeding he was scratching his head, I kept trying to get him to stop doing it but it is obviously so itchy for him and he got frustrated with me trying to push his hand away. so it was either let him scratch and feed him, or restrict him and him refuse to feed. *sigh* double edge sword here!
My daughter uses moogoo, I might use it on him this afternoon when he has his bath and see how it goes. Cant hurt to try hey?
no harm in trying hun. When you get the olive oil, coat his little head in it (massage it in) about half hour before you're going to bath him and then when in the bath rub it with the face washer.

I can understand your concern. I don't think my baby had the dry skin as bad as your baby has it but I was also getting concerned.
My baby had really dry skin. She would come out in rashes very easily and the skin was becoming dryer and dryer. It helped to not put anything in the water when we washed her. The redness disappeared but not the dryness.
We are now using Almond Hair Oil. Within 2 days her skin is looking so much better. My mother in law has told me that Coconut Oil is even better. We will try to buy that tomorrow.
If you can't buy these things in a normal shop then go to an Indian or Asian type shop.
Hope this helps.

As previously suggested, the only thing that worked for DS was a litte bit of QV oil in the bath. I was hesitant at first because i only wanted to use my lovely organic, soap free etc products. He had terribly dry skin and my MIL suggested this. It is the only suggestion she made that I have ever used because she's one of those MILs but it worked! Good luck!

Billie goat soap and almond or olive oil.
Dermaveen or qv work really well. Dermaveen bath oil is what got rid of cradle cap. I tried everything and nothing would work. Just one application made it peel off. His hair went with it as well but it grew back better than before and very quickly. I found organic products were just not strong enough to deal with it. My son had the worst cradle cap and had for months while I experimented on him and them within 24 hours it was gone.
