Why would you leave your children behind if you were getting abused? Wouldnt you do everything you could to remove them from the situation as well.

It stated in the article that he had never been violent or abusive towards the children previously.

She was probably in a horrible horrible horrible DV situation.

I feel so much for her and those two little boys!

I think it's so hard to pass judgement on a situation based on one news report. :(

I know its not easy to leave a DV situation, I've been there. I feel sorry for the mum. I just don't understand why you would leave your children with an abusive partner.

Because she felt so disempowered from the DV that she wasn't able to take them with her! Because she feared for her own life but at the time thought her children would be safe. There are so many possible reasons!

I'll be back later to post, but I hold no judgement against the mother

Australian courts award custody to men who harm thier children all the time.

It said in the article that there was a custody hearing. So she was trying to get her children.

I can't bear to think of the toddler's last moments.

There are many instances where women need to flee a DV situation and have to leave their children behind for a time.

I feel so very sorry for those precious little children and for this poor woman:(.

Domestic order laws are also different in USA.. state to state. Who knows the rest of it!

Also, she was shown pics of her child dead, how can one even say anything about bad about the mother right now. She was at work and he is their father... maybe they were looked after by him while she worked every day without any issues... why would she think that their father would kill them when there were no previous problems with him around the children. In the USA women also don't get the choice to work or not even if they have kids, unlike the support given here. We just don't know enough to say "she shouldn't have left them". I understand that you have been through DV, but that doesn't mean you know what she went through, as I believe that every situation is different.

RIP little babies, may it have been quick and not scary for you poor, those poor things.

She probably never thought he would harm their children. What an evil, evil man.

Again, we pass judgement and find a person wanting where we know little about the story

My father was very abusive towards my mother, he threatened he'd hunt her and us down and kill us all if she took us, so after several years of abuse she left, and she left us as well - she was 26

So he hunted her down, taking his shotgun with him - through sheer luck only she escaped and knew she could never return and she just hoped that he would never hurt us

Unfortunately, and tragically, the father in this story DID kill his kids.

How anyone can blame the mother is beyond me - she was abused and was going through the courts to get custody - for all we know he threw her out and she never left willingly

I hope she never reads this thread, she will already be distraught and blaming herself anyhow - to have judgement heaped upon her by strangers halfway around the world is shameful

My utmost sympathy to the entire family

Oh my god, I wish I didnt read that. How could he do that to his babies, and then position them like they were just props or something...sick and wrong and oh so so sad. I feel for the mother, she will blame herself for the rest of her life...hope this scumbag rots in hell.

I am like you OP, I cant understand why she left the kids there but she must have honestly felt as though they would be safe...RIP beautiful babies.

I said in my post that I feel sorry for the mum. She has had to go thru what no parent should have have to. I just do not understand why she left her children there and also if she was receiving threats, why not go straight to the police? The article said that even when she received the first MMS, she didnt go to police.
I have been involved in 2 DV relationships. The first one, I was a child. My father beat up my mum 3 times when she was pregnant and as a result had 3 miscarriages. He didnt lay a hand on us children but she would never have left us there. We had to run while he was at work and went to the other side of Australia. We went into hiding for months afterwards because he had threatened to kill us if he ever found us. The 2nd was with my ex who was abusive towards my newborn son. So, yes I do understand what it is like to be in a DV relationship.

As pp have said in the USA a mothers choices are very limited (no single parent pension, no rent assistance & no FTB) and who knows what you would do in her position.
I feel for her no parent should have to endure that let alone her poor babies.
What an awful man he should have killed himself and not his poor innocent children. And to send her pictures what an animal.

RIP poor lil bubbas:angel::angel:

My MIL did this. FIL was a controlling wife beater and she left a couple of times for her own safety, leaving her 2 sons behind, believing their father would never hurt them.

Well turns out now (20 years later) that FIL also beat the kids, and tortured them mentally. Both sons now have no relationship with their father
