I just can't master the art of making rissoles, whenever I make them myself they just don't have the right flavour or texture. Does anyone have a great tip or recipe?

Thanks! :chef:

I just use mince, maggi sauce 1/4-1/2 bottle (the stuff that tastes like vegemite, and is in the Isle with the herbs and stuff), paprika, garlic, onion (finely chopped), chopped carrot, finely chopped capsicum.....mix it all together, add breadcrumbs and egg, and then shape them and cook.......

Not really a recipe, but its the way my family has made them for years....and everyone seems to like them....

My recipe is very imprecise (same one Mum has always used for rissoles, meatloaf and meatballs!)

It's just beef mince, 1 egg, about 1 cup breadcrumbs (can use fresh or packet), few squeezed tomato sauce, few splashes worcestershire sauce, 1 onion, 1 clove garlic, 1tbsp mixed herbs and salt/pepper to taste.

Sorry I'm not more measurable but I've made them so often, I just mix it till it's the right consistency... you can also add grated veggies like carrot/zucchini.

If you want crunchy edges roll them in flour before pan frying.

Good luck!

I use mince, onion, carrot, diced bread, an egg and about 2 tablespoons of all purpose seasoning. Then I coat them in flour and breadcrumbs before cooking.

Thats very close to what I do, except flour instead of breadcrumbs, and sometimes I add bacon bits!!! DH loves them!!

Mine is nearly exactly the same, except i use bits of torn up slightly stale bread instead of breadcrumbs!! :chef: Its the one my mum used to make all the time too, and i love the crunchy edges! Mmmmm......

A squirt of just about every sauce in the fridge goes into mine! BBQ, tomato, sweet chili, worcestershire.... with some garlic, onion, breadcrumbs, an egg to bind it all. If you're making cocktail meatballs, a little sausage mince never goes astray either - 500g of beef mince and 250g sausage mince is what I usually do.

If you're feeling lazy...Hamburger Helper by White Wings? added to the mince gives lots of flavour, makes your mince go further & the rissoles don't dry out...all you need to do is add water!

I have heard about that, try to find it once and couldn't, what part of the supermarket is it in? Or Should I try and do the shopping when I am not half asleep :D

I usually get from the section where you'd find the casserole mixes etc, if it's not there try where the breadcrumbs are.

I hate a dry rissole so we always use half beef and half pork mince, makes all the difference. Oh and parsely, got to love some parsely.

No 'real' recipe here either....all I do is add tomato sauce, packet of onion soup mix, yellow and red capsicum finely chopped, carrot, zucchini and a bit of soy sauce to the mince and then an egg. Mix it all up, mould into rissoles and roll in breadcrumbs. Cooked on the bbq is best.

Melfunction, your recipe sounds good... I love capsicum, pity DH hates it!

My recipe is very similar to the imprecise one (lol) but I add about a tbs vegemite sometimes... makes it salty and tasty... otherwise garlic makes all the difference (but everything I make has heaps of garlic in it :D )

Also i should say they freeze really well, you can put them in sandwich bags then you have a whole little stack of individual serves ready for hamburgers, rissoles & mash, or on toast for brekkie...

mmm think I'll be off to the butcher this afternoon to make a stash.

My mum used to have this implement from Tupperware that was just for making perfect sized flat rissoles!

My MIL has one of those patty making thingos, they're great! Pity they're so expensive though.

Oh, and i forgot, i also add diced tomato to mine!

I do the same except - and here's the trick - I brown the onions before adding them to the mince mixture. It makes them really nice and sweet. You can also grate some carrot into them aswell. Guess whats for dinner - YUM!

hhmm.....dinner. Should probably start thinking about that. Would love to have rissoles, but takes forever to thaw the mince.

Hey Aprilsmum,

Funny you should mention that as while I've been pregnant, I've browned the onions and garlic gently before putting them in the mix, as I read somewhere it helps with heartburn... and it really does!
