... To bed? To shower? To wash children? To do dishes? Do you ever take it off? Or take it off all the time?

If so where do you put it???

Haha ah the things I'd never thought of until right now!!!

(I have an engagement ring!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness!!!! Never thought it would REALLY ever happen!!!!!)

Advice on caring for my long awaited and precious ring?

I take them off to wash the dishes, do the gardening and shower. I put them on the kitchen counter.

And :celebrate: engagement ring!

Firstly Congratulations :D

I don't wear mine to shower, but I use gloves for the dishes. I don't wear them to bed either. I pretty much take them off when I get home only because they are white gold and so softer and I find the more I look after them, the less often I need them rhodium plated. But I know alot of people who wear theirs and never take them off....Mine is low profile i.e doesn't stick up much but I would say if its a higher setting you'd probably need to be more careful.

In the 7.5 years I've worn a ring, it's only ever been off when it's at the jeweler being cleaned. And during that time I feel nervous and naked!! Lol

Kind of crashing this thread as I'm married now, but I only take mine off for swimming (or it would fall off), netball (you have to), and weight training (the band pinches with the bar).

Otherwise I wear it all the time - in bed/ shower, etc.

Yayyyy!! Congratulations!!! :)

I take mine off to do the dishes and other housework, to shower and when I go to bed. If off for a short time (dishes) they are on the kitchen counter. Otherwise overnight they sit with my other jewellary in my jewellary box.

Congrats on getting your ring!!!!

I just noticed people saying they take their rings off to do the dishes ... My Opa (grandad) actually is a jeweler and he cleans his stones & jewelry with dish washing liquid because it removes build up and brings out sparkle!!!!! So he always said that's a good excuse to do the dishes and have sparkly rings. :)

Oh, congrats sleepless!!!!!!!!!?!!!

I wear my ring 24/7- the few times I took it off initially I forgot to put it back on, so it is far easier to just leave it on. Though when pregnant I had to switch it to my pinky on the opposite hand due to swelling!
Congrats on the ring :D

I take my eternity band & engagement ring off when I'm cooking, doing dishes, showering, exercising & overnight. I'm so paranoid about it getting knocked!

But my wedding ring has never come off & it most definitely never will! My gorgeous hubby put it there as a symbol of our love & commitment nearly 6 months ago on our wedding day & its there to stay forever :goodvibes:

First of all ...

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I very rarely take my ring off. Only when using some thing really abrasive.

Diamond is an extremely hard crystal. If it is in a quality setting and u get your ring serviced regularly then you have nothing to worry about.

Congratulations!! Can we see a pic? :D

Mine only come off for 1 thing... Making schnitzels
I wear them in the shower, swimming at the beach and pool or anything else Im doing!
I always wear gloves when doing any cleaning though so they dont come into contact with cleaning chemicals.

Congratulations darl!!

Well, DF proposed when we were out camping in the middle of no where and I woke up in the middle of the night to find it NOT on my finger!! I'd taken it off in my sleep and didnt know if Id slept walked and put it somewhere or lost it in the bush...It ended up being in my sleeping bag!

Apart from that time, I only ever take it off when putting on hand moisturiser....and I don't do dishes lol

Although, towards the end of my pregnancy my fingers were a bit chubby and it didnt fit so i wore it around my neck on a chain.

I hate not wearing it because I always think, if right in this very second, I was to die (for whatever reason depending on where I am and what im doing), Id hate to die without wearing my rings.

I take mine off alot! Usually as soon as I get home it goes on the bedsidetable, I just find it easier to do things and not have to worry about damaging it or scratching my DDs face with it.
Congrats SB! How did he propose?

Boobycino
10-04-2011, 21:43
There was no proposal. Lol. Or there was and it was 4 years ago.

The sales chick was like 'wow that was easily' I laughed aloud and said 'oh no it wasn't '

I've been waiting for this ring a looooooonnnnngggggggggg time.

And dp is happy with his ring too :) (seeing as we aren't planning to get married in any kind of hurry he needed some bling :) )

Congrats!! :D :D

I take mine off when I go to bed (hate sleeping in any jewellery except for earrings), and only put them on again when I've had a shower, along with watch, bracelet and necklace.... even then, if I'm at home for the day, they doesn't usually get put on, but I will make sure they go on when I leave the house.

I also remove it for all exercise/sport as I find my fingers swell when I get hot and sweaty so they become uncomfortable.

BUT once they are one for the day (ie on days I am working I jump in the shower as soon as I get up, then they go straight on)... they stay on for everything else, cooking, cleaning, washing dishes etc etc.

Ohhh congrats chel :celebrate:
No I never take mine of. I shower, sleep, cook, work, paint, play pkaydough everything in it.

However my ring was brought 10 years ago when we had no money so I'm not worried about a diamond falling out
(can't wait for my eternity ring next year to replace the engagement ring with a diamond one)

CONGRATS!!!

Mine is really low profile - we designed it that way because I am so hands on I didn't want it getting snagged on stuff. (it is a Tycoon cut set into the band)

I take it of when doing renovations - so the last year or so it has been stored in it's little box..and comes out on a special occassion (like dinner etc) .

My diamond looks brilliant when freshly shampooed...shampood (how do you bloomn spell shampooed!? ) ....or washed in the sink.
The white gold band has a few scratches but that was to be expected as it is such a soft gold.

Do you know what it weird though...like a previous poster I have noticed I get teh odd bit of dermo under there..but also the hairs on THAT finger right where the ring sits are LONGER and DARKER than all the rest! -- strange!

I hardly ever wear my rings. I do when I'm going out, but not always my engagement ring.

The heat has made me feel a bit bloated and they generally annoy me

When I've lost some weight and it's a bit cooler I'll probably wear them more.

Once they're on though I don't take them off for activities - just when they start to annoy me again haha.

DH, on the other hand, never EVER takes his off. Ever.

Congratulations on yours though!! :D

:celebrate: Congratulations!!!!!!!! :highfive:

As for rings, I've got the triple - engagement, wedding and eternity and I never ever take them off now. I had to stop wearing my engagement ring for a while because I got fat  so I recently got it resized (got sick of the "when I lose weight" line) and I never take them off.

I love my rings :goodvibes: My engagement ring was my grandmother's, my wedding ring is what I always envisioned and my eternity ring was bought by DH as a complete surprise for this christmas just passed. So so blessed :goodvibes:

Congratulations!!

I only wear my engagement ring when I go out - it is a very high profile white gold solitaire so needs a little extra protection. Plus it's too easy to scratch T with it. My wedding band never comes off though.

Boobycino
10-04-2011, 22:26
I've decided to take it off, it is quite a high profile ring, so I was just going to be annoying to sleep with and I've made a special draw for it in my dresser :goodvibes:

It's cool because I wear no other jewelery except maybe twice a year, so I feel a bit special wearing it. ;)

I take mine off to sleep. I have a little container on the bedside table that holds them.

And swimming is a definitely no-no with my ring on. I felt it slipping off in the ocean once and now I leave it at home when we go to the beach!

10-04-2011, 22:27
Congratulations!!!:smiliedance:

I take mine off at night. Just because I am scared it will fall off as it is not a tight fit.

I usually wear it at all other times.

Though mine is not an engagement ring it just looks like one ;)

We decided we would never get married as neither of us wants to but I wanted the jewelery:laughing:

Oh ETA I would not wear mine swimming either. I am also deciding whether or not to wear it to Peru

Lemonhead
10-04-2011, 22:35
I only really put it on at the moment if I am leaving the house. Its kinda huge and juts right out and it has seriously taken chunks out of the wall so I would hate to imagine what it could do to bubby :( I intend on wearing it when I can get it fused onto my wedding ring though (bridal set) so it doesn't move around and I will just have to learn to be careful when holding Isaac.

And swimming is a definitely no-no with my ring on. I felt it slipping off in the ocean once and now I leave it at home when we go to the beach!

I've felt the same thing, so I took a trip to the jeweller and have had the sizes altered. My wedding ring is the second sallest size. My engagement ring is a couple sizes bigger than my wedding ring (it's fatter and heavier and is more comfy being a bit bigger) and then my eternity ring is the smallest size - to "hold" them all on. I did this because I wear them all the time.

ETA: Lemonhead - I had to learn to be careful with my engagement ring (and now eternity ring) and bubs as well. They're both claw settings so they can be scratchy, so I'm just naturally a bit more careful.

Boobycino
11-04-2011, 07:02
Yeah! With the claw, like my procedure for rings was looks nice, try it on, still looks nice, price isn't too painful, scratch it on my arm really hard OUCH nup sorry, what else do you have?

11-04-2011, 08:14
Congrats :-) And I have to say how nice it is to hear so many people take their rings off whilst doing housework. I've worked in jewellery for 16yrs now & can't tell you how many people have come in with damaged rings (even chipped diamonds) from doing work whilst wearing them. I only put my rings on when leaving the house.....figure they will last that little bit longer also as gold does wear over time & repairs will be needed in years to come. Also the stones (especially diamonds) will keep their brilliance between cleans if you don't wear them in greasy washing up water....detergent in warm water is great to use but not with dirty dishes as it may leave a layer of grease on the stones....if cleaning your own rings at home it's worth investing in a baby toothbrush (to get in behind setting) & giving them a light brush after soaking in a cup. Should always get them checked by a jeweller to make sure there are no worn settings or loose stones...sorry to babble on a bit but just thought I'd mention it :-)

Firstly, Congrats!!! How very exciting!

I wear mind the majority of the time. I only ever really take it off if its a cold day and my ring is loose and I need to have a shower, to do the dishes or cleaing the shower/bath. Also, when I am cooking with something thats really hands on, like dough, meatballs, hamburger meat etc.

Boobycino

I only wear my ring when im going out of the house. I find rings uncomfortable. I wish i didnt though. Id love to wear it ALLLL the time

31-08-2011, 00:31
At first, I would take it off when I washed dishes, showered etc....but now I CBF and I get scared of losing it, so that and my wedder stay on 24/7, unless I'm doing really messy cooking or painting the house :)

Every now and then I soak it it 1/2 warm water 1/2 windex then give it a scrub with the toothbrush and it comes up like new :)

31-08-2011, 07:14
I wore mine all time unless making something messy and it just got caught on dryer lint catcher and broke and here I was thinking white gold was strong

MrsBeee
31-08-2011, 07:37
I wear mine all the time apart from in the shower or if I'm baking or chopping meat.
Jeweller told me not to wear it in the shower as soap scum is very difficult to remove and makes your stones look dull.

31-08-2011, 08:44

I wear mine 24/7, took it off to be resized, on our wedding day & have the kids. Other wise it's stuck on.
