View Full Version : Over 30's Mums - How Long TTC?
Hi lovely over 30 ladies!
I was discussing with my Mother the other night how ripped off I feel that after all the warnings about irresponsible sex when I was a teen I've failed to fall pregnant as quick as the doom mongers suggested (i.e. just from thinking about it).
She said "Well that's the point isn't it dear? You're not a teenager any more are you?!"
So the title suggests, if you are over 30 would you like to share how long it took you to get that BFP??

At 31 it took 2 months, at 33 it took 4 months (longer if you count the 2 or 3 months I was breastfeeding before that too, although we weren't actively TTC then).
It took me 16 months for this one. Not long as some but really long and emotionally draining for me.
:babydust1: For you :babydust1:
At 28 it took 3 years and I had an early loss and I never fell pregnant again in that relationship due to unexplained infertility. At 40 it took 9 months early loss, 40 3 months early loss and finally at 41 two months baby born at 42. So I actually defied all the odds and became more fertile as I got older. All were natural conceptions.

I'm 32 and this is number 4 for me. It took 10 months to see those longed for lines on the HPT. After about 6 months I decided to start serioulsy charting my cycle to make sure we were DTD around ovulation time and after another 3 months of no success I actually bought an ovulation test kit and BAM!! We got a positive result the following month :smiliedance:
Thanks for all the responses ladies!
SpongebobMummyPants - I'm starting to use ovulation kits this month.
Only thing is we're going on holiday and staying with friends and family quite a lot but we might be lucky and have some time to ourselves on "O Day".
Started trying at 30 (long term user of the pill & never had a pregnancy before) and fell pretty much straight away. I was very lucky with the conception part, but had complications later in the pregnancy and had my DS at 31 weeks!
At 31 it took 2 months, DD was born when I was 32. At 33 we tried for 9 months with no success and then decided to have a break. At 34 we are about to start trying again soon. :fingerscrossed: it will happen quickly!
:babydust2: :bfp: :babydust1: to all who are trying!

3 months at 31yrs. I started charting and got it right on my second chart:) (opks didn't work for me).
At 32, it took us one time without a condom... I guess my teenager gene is still active.
At 29/30 it took about 6 months.

I got pregnant twice at 36. One took 4 months, but we lost the baby. DS was a one shot wonder on the first try a few months later! Currently 38 and have been trying for 5 months now. But I don't think I am ovulating each month as no CM or + OPK's for last 3 months and short cycles. I've started taking vitex, so hoping that will kick it back into gear.
I should now add my own story to the thread - it's taken me 6 months to get another BFP and so far bub is staying sticky!
Thanks for all the info ladies :)

We've been really lucky and had no problems conceiving in our thirties.
I've fallen pregnant both times pretty much as soon as we stopped using birth control. I've never had to chart my cycles or pay attention to ovulation etc, we just stopped using condoms.
At 33 I fell pregnant in the first month.
At 37 I fell pregnant in the second month.
ETA - I don't know if it makes a difference but I haven't taken the pill since I was in my early twenties (and then I was only on it for about 3 years in total). I stopped using it because I didn't like how it made me feel and I also didn't like the idea of interfering with my natural cycle etc. I've just heard it can take longer to conceive if you are coming off the pill.

I've had 4, first 3 were about 1-3 months each to conceive at age 19, 21 and 24 then our 4th we had just last month and I am now 32. I had been on birth control for 7 years and assumed it would take longer to get that out of my system but I stopped the pill, had one cycle and then we were pregnant so age hasn't really affected my fertility. I think it would depend on the individual rather than an age thing.

Took me literally 1 month - without even trying when I was 33!!!
There are so many variables that determine your fertility - but in saying this, I was eating very well, not drinking all that often and I was exercising often too.
I'm thinking of having another, and I'm wondering if I'll get pregnant as quickly!
You just never know hey!!
I was 37 when we started trying in late feb/early march last year and got my BFP november 5th (just after my birthday), so 38. so 9 months of actively ttc. I'm hoping the 2nd one won't take as long as I don't want to be pregnant for my 40th next year!
