hi my seventh month old daughter was sick recently with a tummy bug. that passed but since then she has not been interested in her bottle at all really. Before the bug she would have three meals of solids and four bottles of anywhere between 180-210mls of formula And now she has her three meals of solids and one bottle of 180mls in the morning and 100mls in the afternoon and 180mls or so in the night. i know she is hungry and tried changing the formula but she is still not interested. what should i do next? should i take her back to the doctors?

Dear Charliesmummy,

It is not uncommon for little ones to go off their food or bottles after being unwell – particularly if they’ve had a tummy upset. As a general guide, at 7 months your bub should be having around 100 mL of formula/kg weight every day. It is possible that she has associated the bottle with feeling unwell. Continue to offer her the meals and bottles as you usually would, but try to increase her intake of formula again by offering it from an open cup or a spout cup. She may be more interested if you drink from a similar looking cup yourself. You can also use formula to puree or mix with her solid foods.

If you continue to have concerns about your daughter’s health or hydration level it is definitely best to see your doctor.
