Mackay Birth Centre

Hi mummaT. I had my first child at RPA birth centre in Sydney, and was so pleased with the experience and philosophy that I booked into Mackay birth centre when we moved to Mackay, and had my second child.

I have nothing but positive to say about Mackay birth centre. The care through my pregnancy was fantastic, and because i was experiencing quite severe antenatal depression and had a history of PND with my firstborn, they went out of their way to ensure that I was looked after. They made referrals to other community services for me, and even organised so that I could stay a couple of days in the post-maternity ward at the hospital after the birth! This is not usual, as it is common practice to get discharged the next day (unless you experience complications), so I was very pleased with that. I ended up staying six days in the maternity ward, and every midwife and doctor I met, I was pleased with.

The midwifes from the birth centre kept calling me after I finally went home, to check on me.

Mackay birth centre and all the midwifes that work there will always have a great place in my heart. I absolutely loved Doris, who helped me deliver my DS, and I am currently thinking about a gift to show how much I appreciated her.

I have also been looking at Mackay Birth Centre and my story is very similar to yours- had my first DD in a large city hospital and did not receive the care and support I should have got. I suffered severe PND and I believe my experience there was partly to blame.

I had my 2nd daughter in a small rural hospital where it was personalised care (similar to the philosophies of Mackay Birth Centre). It was the most empowing experience. Which is why im hoping to be able to have my bext one at Mackay Birth Centre. Your response has made me even more determined to go there, thank you again :yes:
