Has anyone ever seen kids' ear muffs for sale in Melbourne?? Like those cute little headphones that Gwyneth's Apple was wearing at the Live 8 concert.

We've just been given tickets to the MotoGP thing down at Phillip Island (corporate box, very swisho ;) ) for tomorrow, and apparently it's going to be very loud - as you would expect for a motorcycle grand prix! They've suggested that we get some ear protection for Eloise. We have some of those little foam plugs, but she keeps pulling them out and playing with them.

I need to buy some today, I've done some googling with no luck... so if anyone has any idea where to buy them.... TELL ME!

Wow Razzle sounds like it will be a great day out. You could try the RSEA stores they sell all sorts of safety equipment. Here is their website http://www.rsea.com.au/store_locator and I notice they have stores in Victoria but I have no idea if they are even close to you.

My only other suggestion is to ring Australian Hearing Services near to you to see if they can suggest something. Or as a long shot it might be worth calling Supacheap auto and seeing if they sell something.

Good luck with your search:)

Oh nice one - didn't even think of the Aust Hearing people. Thanks for that!

Yes, it does sound like a great day, it's all laid on, food, drinks, the works! I'm looking forward to it. It'll probably be bloody cold down there though, I think the track is right on the coast. Brrrrr.... nice sea breeze!

Hi Razzle, sounds like fun lucky you! Hey just an off the wall idea - ring some AFL type shops, I've seen littlies wearing ear muffs at the footy??

Thanks for your help guys. We went down to the local BOC shop and bought some bright yellow things. Eloise is scared of them and won't wear them but I'm hoping that if she stickers them up they might become more attractive to her!! If not, they also gave me some sample ear plug thingys, little foam doodads that squish into your ear. Lets hope that one of the options work for her!!

Do you know any nurses? Hospitals have disposable adhesive ear muffs for loud machines. (MRI?) Maybe it is only for newborns though. Not that I would condone stealing. But we gladly accepted some from a friend just in case. I never opened the pack so don't know if they would fit an older child.

We ended up using the squishy ear plugs. Even after putting stickers all over the headphones, she still wouldn't wear them.

It was *really* loud on the walk up to the corporate tent, but once we were in there it was fine. The only other really loud bit was halfway through lunch - when a FA-18 Hornet (http://www.combataircraft.com/aircraft/ffa18.aspx)did some fancy flying over the track. OMG it was SOOOO loud. My first thought was that a bomb had been dropped. Everyone crowded onto the balcony - I covered Eloise's ears with my hands as well as having the squishy dodads in there. It sounded like the sky was cracking, like the loudest thunderbolt you've ever heard ten times over.

I only watched small bits of the actual race. It was far more fun eating and drinking and socialising all day!!

They're called "Peltor Kid" and you can buy them online via http://www.headsetservices.com/news/newsstory42.html :)

Thansk for that - from that website (UK) they would cost £15 PLUS delivery to Australia.

The ones I ended up buying from BOC are fine and they only cost me $11.50.

BOC do sell the Peltor brand, so I wonder if they have the kids' ones?

lol...sorry I thought it funny when reading this...every year I work in the Corporate suites at the Gold Coast Indy..........and yes it is very loud....now I know why the women actually come along, as most dont watch the race.....lol.........

They do the Hornet fly over too, and It is incredible.......you can see the heat from it and everything....Glad you had the chance to experience that type of event............

I've been to lots of V8 car things, and an Auscar Nascar thing years ago, but I dunno, the bikes just seemed so much louder than cars. I think because it's a higher pitch maybe....

Yeah, I only saw about 5 mins of the race, I only looked at the track when I heard people go "oooooohh" because that meant that there was a crash! We had a big plasma screen in the room anyway. The room (actually it more like a portable) overlooked Gardiner straight.

LOL....I usually work on the shicanes (sp?) so when someone say ooooohhhh everyone pushes and shoves, as accidents are a norm.......Im glad you had a good time.... I personally dont like the sounds of motor bikes, as I agree they have a very loud high pitch squeal.....rather than the roar of a V8.........

The rooms at the Indy are big scaffolds basically......so they would be alot louder than the portable......I wish we had them instead:laughing:  .........

These types of events are an experience in themselves, and for me personally for the atmosphere rather than the races....

Oh bugger - we could've all met up had I known you were all going - we didn't find out we were even going until Friday morning.

I could've tried to sneak you all a glass of champagne over the fence!! Gosh the food was so noice.... it was Lindsay Fox's corporate box, so it was all full on. One of the riders came up and signed some autographs but I can't remember who it was.

Not the easiest thing to find are they?? Outdoor Kids (www.outdoorkids.com.au) have them available in hot pink & fluoro green. They are "proper" ones made by Peltor & are designed to block out loud noises / protect ears. Fit ages 1-7 years. Just like Apple's!

You can get kids ear muffs from www.babyearmuffs.com.au (http://www.babyearmuffs.com.au), I got some recently, my 1 year old boy even likes to wear them when i turn our noisy juicer on. The ear muffs are adjustable as well so they will fit him for years. Such a good idea!!!!!!!!
