View Full Version : Cot mattress protectors
Hi all. I've been looking for cot mattress protectors and am struggling to find any in Target or K-Mart (I thought they'd have them for sure). I'd like to find something with the waterproof layer, nothing too fancy but a decent fitted one in the standard size. Let me know brands as well. Thanks.

I found that hard as well. I ended up buying a single bed one and wrapped it around the cot mattress. I just had enough of looking for one and did that.
Try Big W. I think I bought my bassinette mattress protector from there. Might have been Big Softies? I got given my cot mattress protector but it looks like the same brand as my bassinette one. Otherwise try Best n Less.
In Big W they are in the baby section, not manchester. Mine aren't fitted though - they just sit on top of the mattress.

You can get them from Target, but I found you really have to rummage - most of them are an absolute mess with nothing where it's supposed to be - very frustrating :( ! Also, you might find a baby target will have more stock. Anyway, I find the taget one great, plastic on one side and kind of cotton/towelling on the other with two bits of elastic that go around the mattress - so not fitted but they don't budge and cover all of my mattress except for about an inch at either end (hope that all makes sense). Also, thye were a great price, I can't remember exactly, but around $10 max. They were in really basic packaging hanging from the end of an aisle. Good luck, I know it's really annoying when you have something in mind and you just can't find it!!

I bought a fitted one from Big W in the babies section. It wasnt dear at all, and it fits really well. It just has some elastic attached to it that stretches over the mattress.
I agree with Jembelina about Target! I can never find anything there!! I do love their clothes though! :)

Have you tried baby stores? I got my one from Sydneys Baby Kingdom in Bankstown. Cant remember how much it cost though as we got it 2 1/2 years ago.

Myer baby section has them for around $13.
I gave up in target as their version of a cot protector was half the size of the mattress! : )

Now that you say that I remember that Tareget do what they call a jumbo size, which is actually the right size! like i described in my last post.

If all else fails, most baby specific stores carry them.

I definitely recommend buying 2. You'll need a spare so you can change it in the middle of the night when the cot gets soiled (leaking diapers, vomit, etc) unless you are happy holding bub for the hour it takes to wash and dry, or you have an alternate sleep place for her.
I know The Living Textiles (www.thelivingtextiles.com.au) do a good cot mattress protector. Nature's Child (www.natureschild.com.au) sell a breathable but waterproof one that's covered in flannelette (to stop it moving around and not feel plasticky) but it's not a full sized one.
I personally prefer to use a wool 'proof mat'. I have one by Onkaparinga (sp?) but have also cut up and felted an old wool blanket. It has the advantages of being water resistant, breathable and is cool in winter and warm in summer.

I bought cot mattress protectors from Target, but have discovered that they don't stretch to cover the width of the mattress we have (in a Boori cot). Also, the fitted sheets we have aren't deep enough for this mattress. Any suggestions for shops or brands to look for? Has anyone else had this problem?
P.S. Almostmum no more - Aidan Daniel was born 10 days ago, 10lb 3.5 oz! Am new to forum so haven't figured out how to change signature yet...

I know what you mean about cant find them in target or kmart. I went to both and had the same problems. I actually bought mine from BIG W, i cant remember the brand name but it was relatively cheap. I got my other ones from family and friends.
