View Full Version : Success Rate of Auditions
My DS has been asked to attend an audition for a commericial. He has been in an agency for one week :smiliedance: . Problem is the day they said it was on has changed and I have to work. Wondering if the 180km round trip and losing a day pay (if I can get someone else to work that day :fingerscrossed: ) is worth taking him for the opportunity.
Wondering what success anyone has had with auditions, do you get many or should I just jump at this chance. Really would like to take him but unsure...the agency told me that usually 20 babies are at each audition. Is this right?
Hope someone can enlighten me a bit.

It is highly competetive.
My DS was one of two chosen for a casting the new "sherriden" TV commercial.
Unfortunaley he didn't get it.
It wasn't because he wasn't cute enough, but that the other boy had a more similar look and colourings to the two girls that had already been chosen for the ad. They were suppose to be sibilings in the ad.
I have only seen the commercial twice.
What I am trying to say is it really depends "what" they are lloking for.
Have you got family/friends that could take him?
If it were me I would take him, but you have to be 'lucky' to get the part.
Can I ask, "what commercial is it for?"
Good luck with it :fingerscrossed:
The commericial is Daycon (sp) airconditioning, Casting is in Brisbane. Taking the day off will cost me $175 + petrol+daycare. I know DS is worth it, it will mean having a tight week though. They picked him from his photos so they know how he looks, his colouring etc. Does this make a difference?

A lot of children can differ from there photo's.
My DS has auburn/light brown hair and green eyes but in photo's he looks as though he has darkish brown hair and brown eyes.
They like to see them in person.
They like to see what their personality is like to.
I guess you have to decide if it is worth it or not and as I said it is highly competetive.
Good luck if you decide to go. I have my :fingerscrossed: for you little man!

If it costs you a lot to do it, and is that much effort, I'd say No to that one.
We take our daughter into Melbourne for her auditions, which is about 30minutes from our place. She's in school, so this usually means a day, or a half day, off school. Neither me nor my hubby work during the day so luckily we're flexible here, but it still often takes some arranging, and extra money to fill the car up with fuel. As you know, you don't get a lot of notice for the auditions, either.
Usually you get there, sit in the waiting area for up to 30 minutes (they rarely run on time) and fill out the forms (have your sons measurements already written down, it makes you look more organised) then the audition usually lasts about 2 minutes.
A standard audition for an tv ad goes like this: a quick chat to the video camera so they can see how responsive the child is and how well they can communicate and talk etc, they'll get them to do a couple of actions/things they might need to do/say on the ad, have a photo taken, then that's it. They thank you and you go home. It's really quick.
You usually hear back in a day or two if you were successful, you don't hear anything if you weren't.
Yesterday's audition for my daughter was a 6 hour process from start to finish, from when we got her from school and got her showered and ready, to when they got home from the city (came home in peak hour traffic)- for a 2 minute audition. If she gets the part, that's great. And we keep doing this because she wants it and loves it, but if I had to take a day off work and do a 180km round trip when money is tight that week....? I would have to say No to that one.
You've only been there a week, its great you've been offered an audition already, hopefully another one will come up that is easier for you to get to.

thanks cake that was really useful information I didn't know about.
I had a restless night thinking it over. I job share and I asked the other lady if she could work, she first said yes then a few hours later rang and said she remembered she had a hair appointment she didn't want to change :banghead: felt really disappointed as was had began to get excited.
My DH might take him now :fingerscrossed: , although he thinks DS won't behave as nicely as he does with his Mummy. I was going to forgo the money as I kind of felt like I am letting DS down not taking him but now I have no choice. I only work two days per week and it would have to be on the day I have to go in when initially it wasn't but they changed the audition :banghead: .
Do you get many opportunities for auditions? I really don't want DS to miss out.

My DD had to call backs for snugglers and huggies. We drove 4 hours for the auditions as well, we were not going to do the later one as DD was sick but the casting people pleaded with us. We went and we were in there for 15 mins and did not get it.
The snugglers one, she only did not get as she would not do what was asked (shy around men). Some other kids turned up at their alloted time and were in there for 5 mins, we were there 3 hours.
You still get $50 for the call back..
I say, if you do not go you will never know. I joined knowing i would have to travel too, my DD was too shy for all that Jazz...
Good Luck
Thanks. DS attended the audition. :fingerscrossed: but not holding my breath.
