Just starting a thread (I have never posted anything online before) but felt compelled to share because like most mums I google when I have a baby/toddler problem and see what the internet throws back at me.
my toddler was scratching a mosquito bite on her face for 2 months-which developed into a nasty sore and here are the things I tried.
cut finger nails every 2nd day
file finger nails
tell her to hold, pat, or press whatever it is she wants to scratch
say "hands on head" when they go to scratch
get cranky-(doesn't really work)
make a big deal out of "not scratching" - (this definately made it worse)
put bandaides on her fingers at nap time or bed time (she just pulled them off)
put bandaides on the sore (this caused horrible inflamed skin and made it worse
and then what really helped was sudocream! The thick zincy white nappy cream. I dabbed it on multiple times a day for a few days and it healed up. The zinc probably helped - and I think having something sticky and goopy on her cheek reminded her that she shouldn't be scratching it!!!
There you go - I hope that helps someone who is at their wits end with a toddler who won't stop scratching!
