Just wondering if anyone knows what the sids risk is with sleeping on tummies?
My 8 week old, sleeps so well on his tummy, but often gets quite distressed on his back - he groans and moves his legs as if he is in pain.
I've tried puttin him on his stomache and then rolling him over when he is asleep, but he will wake within 10 minutes.
We've been considering using one of those respirtory monitors - does anyone have any advice?

I do believe that at 8 weeks old, they are still in the high risk factor for sids...not quite sure about the monitor...
Have you tried sleeping him on his side?
My DD preferred sleeping on her side, I ended up buying an anti-roll pillow for her, but you could try using rolled up towels on either side to stop him from rolling over.
Sorry I am not of much use!
I'm probably not going to be much use either, but my baby also loves sleeping on his tummy. Its probably because that's the way they were curled up in your womb, and when you were laying on your back (as we were all told to during pregnancy) then they would effectively be laying 'on their tummy'.
So what I do is let him have his afternoon sleep on his tummy, because he has this on the couch (while I am sitting here on bubhub usually), so I am watching him breathe the whole time. Then when he's having trouble settling in the evening we pop him on his tummy. This is on the couch too, while we are in the room
When he goes to sleep at night I lay him on his back. Any time I am not right next to him or if I am asleep myself, I make sure he is on his back.
So he gets a bit of both.
As I said, this is probably not that much help to you...

Hi,
Tummy sleeping is just one risk factor. If you dont smoke, have baby sleeping in a clutter free environment, well ventilated room, dont overdress your baby for bed, your baby was average weight born, has good head control, breastfeeding and is not ill with any serious air way or heart disease.
Its just one risk factor out of many so put it into perspective and you can make your mind up as to what degree of risk you actually have?
Both my children slept on their tummies form the day they were born (when they slept! mostly they were in a sling during the day and at night in my bed)
HTH:)
