View Full Version : WOOHOO my OB just approved my elective CS
I'm so excited (and relieved). I had a routine OB appt today and he asked how I wanted to have the baby. I said "ceasarian thanks" and he went "no problem". He did then outline the risks but didn't try and talk me out of it at all. YAY! :cheerleader1:
Haven't finalised the date yet because he needs to liaise with the hospital but I am SO happy that he is happy to give me the type of birth I want. I love my OB. :D
I had a c-section and loved it and my recovery was easy :-)
I am glad that you got the answer you were hoping for and now you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy without worrying about the birth :-)
Thanks Louellyn, it's amazing how much less anxious I feel now. I should have pinned the OB down for an answer earlier! :D
Yay Satine:) mines all booked in and can not wait.... When will you get your date? How exciting:)

I thought it was kind of nice that my obs assumed I'd be having a vbac, he seemed surprised when I asked to book an elective date but didn't try and talk me out of it. I like that he treated me like an adult and not a child that needed to be lectured. Its not an easy decison deciding on an elective and it is wonderful when obs support your decisions :D

thats wonderful news you get the birth you want :hyper:
Congratulations on getting the birth you want hope it all goes well for you!!!!
Thanks everyone - I went in there prepared to argue my case and was very pleasantly surprised that I didn't need to! :)
I have an approximate date of 11 May but the OB said we will actually book it in sometime in the next few weeks.

That's fantastic, I wish I had your OB, mine is trying to talk me out of it in favor of a VBAC....she thinks she has won...but she hasn't LOL. Anyway Congrats :)

Out of curiosity is your OB private or public?
Private. I've decided it's definitely worth paying the money to get this sort of support for my choices!
I was speaking to someone yesterday who was refused an elective CS in the public system down here (Tas). :(

:)Thought so...Yes I am private to but I just didn't realize some OBs say no to a c section. I thought we could pick our birth whatever it may be. So public you can't? Is that right wow.
When I was going through IVF I had a stand-in OB for an embryo transfer once (my usual fertility specialist was away). I made some joke about him putting the baby in there and then possibly eventually removing it again when I gave birth, and said something in passing about hoping it would be by CS. He gave me a big lecture about how risky CS is and how women shouldn't just request them, they should have a medical reason, blah blah blah. I made a mental note then not to use him as my OB if I did get preggers, cos it was obvious he would not be supportive of elective CS! And he was in the private system too.
I seriously think he would be one to refuse a CS - in which case I would be going to someone else, if he was my OB.
I am going public and will have an elective c section. We were very fortunate at our appointment a month back we got an understanding ob who was happy to book us in. Since then it seems we have had to justify our decision to every other ob who keep trying to sway us in to trying for a vaginal birth- even though I am having twins!
