Anyone know how to get rid of the ammonia smell out of Bumgenius nappies? They don't smell after being washed, just after use, particularly over night. I've tried doing a strip wash and 1/2 cup bleach and it seemed a little better perhaps but not gone.

Do a soak in quite warm water with a cup of vinegar and a cup of bi-carb soda. Let them soak for about an hour. Works very well gets rid of any build up of detergent and wee:)

Thanks Gypsybum, have you done this specifically with Bumgenius as the website says not to use vinegar or bicarb?

I think you will find that it is not the nappies that smell, rather it is your bubs wee. If they dont smell after washing then it sounds like they are getting clean enough. Perhaps try changing bub more often, as it is the conctration of the urine that makes the amonia smell stronger.

Wildflowers I don't have bg's but I do this method with all my brands of mcn's. I can't imagine why they would say not to use vinegar or bi carb? Did they give a reason? It certainly won't ruin the fabric. I got told to do this by the owner of pea pods nappies cause I had the same prob with the smell and the bamboo inners going hard. It really works well, no smell and nice and soft. They're natural products so I can't see the prob?

Thanks all, that gives me a bit to go on.

I'll try changing DS a bit more often during the day but I'm guessing we'll still have the problem at night so will also give the soaking and vinegar/bicarb a go.

Thanks again.
