Ouch ouch ouch!!! I am 27 weeks pregnant and for the last week or so I have been getting shooting pains through one of my nipples  It is particularly bad when I lie on that side, making it difficult to sleep :gloomy:

I can't see any cracks or anything, have been using lanolin to condition my nipples and I haven't experienced any colostrum discharge.

Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do to fix/improve the problem?

TIA :D

Ohhh I used to get that when I was cold, or when my nipples went hard. Oh it hurts so much. Don't have any tips to help it though as I coouldnt find anything to make it better. Sorry I wasnt much help!!!

Yeah, earlier on it was when I was cold or hard, but this is almost like a burning sharp pain, sorta like a needle pain and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the state of the nipple

Hi aggero,

I'm don't know too much about this, and I'm sure there's plenty of people on bubhub who do, but I think I heard it's possible to get mastitis in pregnancy before you're even breastfeeding??

Maybe worth you checking it out with you midwife/gp to see if that could be causing it?

Hope it gets better soon...:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Hmmm :detective: just did a search and came up with nipple vasosprasm, has anyone had any experience with this?

Yes, sounds exactly like nipple vasoplasm, I used to get it quite a lot, and all the blood would drain out of my nipple, and it would go white, and be so incredibly painful.
I used to just massage it, and get the blood flowing again, and it would go away.
Trying to keep your nips warm helps I think, and it is strange, I got it frequently for a few months, and haven't had it for ages now.
As you can see from my sig, it has not interfered with my ability to breastfeed at all! :)

There is also a thing called Reynauds Syndrome, which is very similar, but a little more serious, I remember looking it up, and deciding mine was only a vasoplasm.

Thanks Angie :hugs: I will do a bit more internet searching on the subject. Good to know that it hasn't interferred with your milk supply
