Ok this might sound naive - but DS is my first bub and has been on solids for a good month or 2 now. I want to introduce meat - thought I'd start with chicken - do I steam it? bake it? add oil and fry it??? and then shove it through the mix master thingy??? Cooking meat for bub advise please:)

Hey Lucyp
I broil it...in a frypan in a small amount of water...no oil, no salt or pepper..this is minced chix.....and then pop them into ice cubes, then into a freezer bag.

I did not introduce meat until my daughter was about 9-10 months and did so fairly conservatively. Make sure it is very fine, not too hard to chew and does not contain any extra sauces spices and so forth. A fine mince is usually okay.

DS is 7months - nearing 8... I am basicaly following Robin Barkers book of baby and toddler food. She says meat ok to introduce from 6 months - is it not???? There are so many different books and recommendations - so confusing  and then there is also the cheese issue - but thats another thread :)

For us personally, we chose the slightly later time just because of our own choice. I just thought that since we were still breatfeeding and that was my daughter's main source of nutrition, and given that their disgestive systems is still regarded as immature, we just did not want to rush into things. Some people wait even longer. So, we were reasonably conservative sticking to just vegies and fruits for a while before going the meat. Go with what feels right for you and your baby and what you know that can handle. Some wait longer than 6 months to start solids and others find their babies are keen at 6 months and then what they can eat during that first year is all part of the new growing up phase. You go with what feels right for your baby.

All the best with it! It is another exciting milestone. :)

I introduced ds to meat about 7 mths i think, only because i thought i'd better, no other reason. I boiled the chicken in water only, then after it was cooked i put it in the blender with either pawpaw or mango. It seemed to make the texture a little easier for bub to eat, plus it tastes pretty yummy (to bub anyway). After a month or so i introduced mince, which i cooked with tin toms, 1/4 diced onion (browned first), & diced potato. Simmer until cooked and sauce reduces then when it cools a bit throw the whole lot into a blender, then freeze in ice- cube trays. It tastes a little like shepards pie except a little blander. Make sure you introduce any type of food slowly, so that you can easily find out if bub is allergic to anything. Have fun!
