Hello Brisbane- Mums!!

I'm Carolin (26) from Germany and in 6 weeks my little daughter Emily Sophie (1 year old) and myself are going to move to Brisbane. My husband is taking off next Wednesday already to find a home and a car before we arrive.

We thought about looking for a house in the Paddington, Milton, Red Hill, Bardon, Kelvin Grove - area, the western suburbs. Does anyone (who reads this :o ) live there? Is this a family-friendly area? Or is there even a play-group anyone joins?

I'm really looking forward to move to Australia :) , but I'm also really scared of being on my own all the time since my husband's going to work a lot. It would be fantastic to find some other mums who'd like to catch up for playing and chatting or go out for walking, swimming, shopping, having a drink in the evening or whatever.

Greetings from cold and rainy Germany
:D

Hi,

We live in this area (Red Hill), and if you like inner city life it's great. Some areas are a bit hilly, the houses are generally older style, and the blocks smaller than living a bit further out, but we love it. It's only a short walk to the city centre and Roma st parklands from our house, and there is pretty good public transport.

There are heaps of families living in the area, and lots of playgroups/mothers groups. There is a C& K playgroup in Paddington (Lady Cilento), and another at Lady Gowrie (at Spring Hill). The playgroup Australia has a list of other playgroups in the area and there are a few.

There are heaps of state schools in the general area, and they are really nice, (and there are a few catholic ones too)....

The parks are really nice. There is a public pool opposite suncorp stadium, a park and dog off leash area, and there is also another park which has just been upgraded next to milton State school (I'm not sure of the names of them though).

There are some good swim schools at Newmarket, and Spring Hill, and Gymboree at Indooroopilly. There are heaps of music, art, gymnastics, and dance schools around the area too.

It's a bit noisy because of the traffic (I don't hear it though), so it's just where ever you want to live....

If you move close by welcome to the area....

Leanne
