Ok so Ive FINALY managed to find a spare 20mins to write this. I'm slack I know....
Tuesday the 22 August my due date: Whilst unpacking our new house we moved when I was 38 weeks preggi) I felt a trickle of fluid that soaked DP's shorts I was wearing. I got so excited!! I got on the phone to the birth centre and told them what was happening. Midi said it sounded to her like my waters HAD broken and to wait till the contractions started and were about 5mins apart and then to go in.
I phoned DP at work and told him the great news. He wasn't very impressed that I had wet his shorts I got so excited!! I got on the phone to the birth centre and told them what was happening. Midi said it sounded to her like my waters HAD broken and to wait till the contractions started and were about 5mins apart and then to go in.

I phoned DP at work and told him the great news. He wasn't very impressed that I had wet his shorts Whilst sitting on Bub Hub the phone rang.. It was a midi from the Birth Centre- She was calling to say I had to go in right away!! I am Group B Strep positive and as my waters had broken I had to go in and be placed on antibiotics via a drip. So I phoned DP and he came home... then off to the birth centre we went bags in hand.

Got to the B/C and was hooked up to a CTG monitor to see what was going on contraction wise.... there were some contractions but nothing too major. It was then decided that I would have an internal to make sure it was my waters that I had felt before I was given the antibiotics.

One of the midis who I have had problems with before was working that day and unfortunately as both MY midwifes were busy with appointments for other women she was assigned to do the dreaded internal. So there I lay legs wide open while she poked and prodded making idle chit chat..... Everything was going Ok until she opened the curtain and then the door and went into the hallway to get another midi....but she left everything open so anyone walking down the birth centre corridor could have seen EVERYTHING!!!! I was very unimpressed an DP was even more cranky..... after that I refused to let her anywhere near me and I made it quite known to everyone how I felt about her.

After the internal I was left alone with DP while they got a Dr to asse me(Dr's aren't normally in the birth centre) About an hour later in walked Dr sexy pants..... thank god he wasn't doing the internal.... We had a chat and it was decided that I would have an ultrasound to measure the amniotic fluid. Had the ultrasound and it was decided that my waters PROBABLY hadn't broken so I could go home..... But if I had any more fluid loss overnight I was to come back in the next morning.

Day 2
I woke at around 4am and couldn't go back to sleep. I lay there till 5am when I finally sat up.. with that Skyla woke and started to wriggle around... all of a sudden I felt a small gush of fluid so I knew it would be back to the hospital for the day.

I got up and jumped on bub hub(as you do at 5am in the morning) at 6.20am DP's alarm went and he came into me work clothes in hand ready to go and have a shower then off to work.. I said umm are you working today are you???? I had already woken him to say we were going back to the hospy but obviously he didn't take any notice
Dp then sat next to me and played the play station. When it was time to get ready to go to the hospy he asked if he could wear his work clothes!! Silly boy- he thought he was going to work after we went to the hospy.. I on the other hand knew deep down the next time we walked in our front door it would be with our Daughter

We arrived at the birth centre at 9am and I was seen by my midi Marion.. they wanted to do ANOTHER internal to check the "fluid" but I declined. So they got the Dr and the decision was made that the safest thing to do was break my waters to get things moving due to the Strep.
At 12pm I was taken to the birth suite to have my waters broken - that was certainly an interesting feeling.... All of a sudden I felt a warm gush and I knew we were on our way. Amanda the first midi I had for the day said to go for a walk around the hospy to get things moving along. So DP and I went across the road to hungry Jacks for lunch.... An hour later we returned and the contractions had started. So off we went walking again. We called the family to let them know it was happening then at 2pm we headed back to my room.
Amanda asked about the contractions and DP told her they were about 5mins apart... She said they weren't close enough and she had to talk to Dr David

When she returned she told me that the Dr wasn’t happy and wanted me to start on Syntocin straight away. I knew I wouldn’t be able to have the active natural DRUG FREE birth we had planned on for so long…I felt let down by my body and upset that I could no lomger birth in the birth centre.

Amanda came back with the syntocin and at 2pm we started…. So there I lay on my back on a bed looking at DP feeling miserable and having pains.

At 3.30pm it was shift change over and my new midwife came in to meet us. Her name was Shane and she was FANTASTIC she was a lovely lady and so helpful and had a great sense of humour so DP and I got along with her right away.

Soon after Shane arrived the contractions started to get uncomfortable and I was saying OWWWWWW through them. Shane was making fun of me saying Owwww and telling me how most women would be screaming by this point.

At around 5.30pm Shane went to have dinner and another Midi came in and told me I could get in the SHOWER!!! I was SO excited cause I was hoping to have a water birth so getting anywhere near the water was enough to make me happy… I got in the shower with DP and it was bliss. It took so much of the pain away. I stood under the shower while DP held the other shower head on my lower abdomen. Shane came back from Dinner and sat and talked away. She was commenting on how long my legs were… she couldmt believe it!! I believe her words were- "they just go on and on forever" LMAO!!! During the time I was in the shower my midwife from the birth centre came in to visit me and see how everything was going- she was going home to sleep and would be back at around 2am.

At 6.30pm I realised Neighbours was on and I asked DP if we could have the TV connected then all of a sudden the contractions stepped up a few notches…. I was in SO much pain. DP was there on the bed behind me rubbing my back and telling me how well I was doing and Shane was in front of me reminding me to breath through the contractions and giving me heaps of encouragement. There were tears by this point and I was really in a lot of pain but I hadn't asked for any pain relief so I was happy

Shane decided it was time for another internal at 7pm. I was looking forward to it and seeing how well I was progressing. So she gloved and lubed up and in she went. The pain OMG it was EXCRUCIATING. The more she poked the more I cried. Then a contraction hit…. The pain of that internal was far worse than the actual labour pains. I was hysterical by then and DP was really looking very concerned but was there with me holding and supporting me through everything. Shane told me when she had finished I was only 3cms!!!! This was after 7 hrs!! I was so upset. She sat down and told me the best thing would be an Epidural. She explained that it would relax everything and I would dilate faster otherwise I would probably end up having a C-Section. She left DP and I alone to discuss everything. I was crying and was pretty much hysterical by this point. I was devastated I needed to have pain relief and kept telling DP I didn’t want it but the pain was just too much. He said I could do it but I knew I couldn’t. The internal had stimulated my uterus and made the contractions even stronger and cause I was only 3cms I knew I had quite a few more hours to go yet plus having the threat of a c-section looming over me wasn’t helping. It was decided I would have the epi simply to avoid the c-section.. I wasn’t happy at all.

Shane organised the epi and eventually in walked the anethsatist(sp?) I fell in love with her hehe.. They sat me up and just after she started a contraction hit… We were at the point where she couldn’t stop so I had to not move through one of the worst contractions I have ever felt and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. When it was all over Shane and DP made me comfy and I was able to relax and I started making jokes again.

Soon after it was shift change over again and Shane went home. Ivana was my new midi. She was how should I put it- straight to the point, and SCARY very scary…… She said come on were going to move you if you don’t move around you will end up having that c-section now get moving!! Umm the lower half of my body is NUMB how the hell am I supposed to MOVE????? But she moved me alright.. DP on one side Ivana on the other and they rolled me onto my side. She then started making me drink cordial half lying down.. Now if any of you have reflux you can imagine how that felt. DP was three with me and Ivana was chatting away and fussing around moving me all the time barking orders at poor DP to massage my feet to help the contractions( I didn’t mind this part)

All of a sudden I felt something strange…..it felt like I was about to Poo!!!! I told Ivana and she ripped open my legs and had a feel. It was bubs head!! (I knew that already lol) With that she and DP had me on my KNEES!!! Id had an epi and was on my knees. She told me that when I felt the urge to push- to go with it.

I started to push at 1.15am. DP was holding my hand ad Ivana said Tim come down here!! All I heard him say was NOOOOOO (he didn’t want to look!) but eventually she convinced him. When he had his first look his only reaction was oh WOW just as her head was crowning. I could hear Ivana telling him to give me encouragement and tell me to push harder etc…now DP is shy and this would have made him feel very uncomfortable but he did as he was told anyway. Ivana and DP were both yelling at me to push harder and after about 15mins of this I sat back on my heels and and said I'm sorry I don’t want to be mean but can you PLEASE stop telling me to push harder because I cant!!! I was very polite during labour always saying please and thank you

At 1.44am Skyla was born as I felt her body slip out of my it was the most bizarre feeling. I didn’t know if I was going to be sick or faint!! Then I heard her cry and it was the most amazing sound I've ever heard. the feeling when you hear that sound is indescribable.

DP cut the cord and Skyla was handed to me. I looked at her and feel in love all over again not only with her but with DP. He was almost crying and Ill never forget the look on his face.

After about an hour and two lots of vomiting from the syntocin I went and had a shower then we were taken to our room at the birth centre where we were left alone we held Skyla for a little while then went to sleep together in our double bed.

Skyla was born on the 24th August at 1.44am weighing 3.875g or 8p 8oz she was 53.5cms long and very healthy

Thanks for reading- I'm sorry it was so long'!!!!!
