Hi,

I am a little confused with the whole antenatal care situation. I have had 2 visits to my GP after a positive test - I had a dating scan (and to check it wasn't ectopic) at 6.2 weeks and blood test/results at 12 weeks - never had a booking visit (which I thought was nessesary).

I am meant to go back to my GP in 4 weeks time will he refer me to an antenatal clinic (for the booking visit and further ongoing care) or do I have to arrange that? I have read that you can have shared care between your GP and a antenatal/midwife clinic...is this true? and how?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but the information I can find seems to tell me that I should have already been booked in for this!

Hi I am in a similiar situation as you. It depends if you are going private or public. I am going public and my GP faxed the referral to the hospital, then they phoned me with my first antenatal appointment. I went private with my first pregnancy and had to book into the obstetrician and hospital myself. I will have my first appt with the hospital when I am 20 weeks and am going to ask to go share care with my GP, it depends on the hospital and there policies and if you are a low risk or high risk pregnancy. My GP also made my appointment for my 20 week morphology scan which I am going private as when i have my appt it will be due. I hope this makes sense and helps you.

I'm going through the public system.
At what stage was your first appointment with the hospital?

I will be 19 weeks and 6 days when I have my first appointment with them. I am going public as well.

I had to book in myself and had first appointment at the hospital at 11 weeks with midwife for interview an tour and have my appointment with consultant there at 12 weeks.... I'd just go to your GP and ask for a referral again and find out what to do in your area.

I didn't have my first appointment with Nambour hospital till I was about 20 weeks. You could call the Hospital and ask if they have a referral for you. If they do ask when you will be seen. If they don't have one ask your Gp for one.
