Hi there,

so my 10 month old dd has been told she has soy and dairy allergy and was put on neocate at 7 mths after severe failure to thrive and significant reflux.

We see a gastroenterologist at the RCH at Brisbane and have been referred to Dr Peake at RCH, but advised that the next available appt is April 2012! So what do we do now??

We have been referred to a dietitian and RCH but not received notification of an appt yet.

Who do we see for allergy testing in the meantime?

I googled allergy and immunology and there is a place in Greenslopes called Compass immunology clinic- has anyone been there?

Does anyone know how long the wait is for Dr Pete Smith or Dr Souter on the Gold Coast?

Can you get allergy testing done by a normal paediatrician? I imagine in a baby it would be much better to have a specialist to do it?

i think she is struggling with introducing foods and the gastroenterologist said to be careful introducing foods. we have observed increased reflux and lots of screaming after trying her on some couscous a month or so ago. She is only eating some veges and a few fruits. i don't know how we go about adding more foods?

I found out in passing from my mil over wkend (u would think she would have told me or dh about it before now) that my dh had allergies as a baby and there is egg allergy in his family, so i want to work this out.

please help!!!

If you get a referral to either of those doctors you mentioned then call the office after faxing the referral through, you may be able to jump the (very long) queue because you have a baby with significant issues. Alternatively, Dr Pete Smith is opening a new allergy clinic at the end of this month called Allergy Medical Group in Newstead, Brisbane that people can attend without an appointment. It'll be run by him and other allergy specialists. The web address is here (http://allergymedicalgroup.com.au) for more info and contact details.

Good luck :hugs:

hi i take my son to see dr soutter she is amazing she gave us soooo much clarity after seeing her. we waited 2 months to see her im not sure if tht is because he was having a lot of anaphylactic episodes.
he is allergic to dairy soy eggs wheat seafood and peanut and cashew and mould and cat and dog and grass and tree. he alos has severe reflux as well.
it was well worth the wait of two months and i hope it isnt long till u see her and i hope u get some answers soon allergies suck :(

eta no u cant get the skin prick test done by a normal peadeactrician tht is why our pead reffered us to velencia soutter.

another query now..

my daughter was seeing a paed as well as a gastroenterologist and now will be seen by an allergy specialist (not sure on follow up etc) and possibly a dietitian.

Do you think ongoing followup from a paediatrician is useful to ensure that someone has all the information in the once spot? Or do you think a GP is fine?

We have moved away from our regular paediatrician and GP who we had been seeing since Zoe's birth and I am wondering whether we should get him to send her file to a new paediatrician for coordination of her case.
