Hey Mandy, all the nappies I use require a cover. I don't have any really cute patterned nappies though so not an issue there.
My nappies have a cover so they don't leak things (imagine the things:eek: ) out the sides.

Silly, the cover is the pretty part. Then you have inserts which are the changeables.

Then again, I don't use them either but this is what I think anyway...

I agree, covers over pretty nappies seems dumb to me aswell. I use pocket nappies for this reason. They dont require a cover... therefore I can show of my cute designs no worries... & no leakage either! :p

A good way for me to get in to cloth nappies was, after reading all the tips on Bubhub, to get sample packs and small orders of ones on special so I could try all different types. I got prefolds and fitteds, so they need a cover, and different types of covers, wool soakers, PUL and fleece.

Now I've been using them I'm going to order more of the ones I found work best, BBH hemp(one size) and prefolds with PUL covers(for everyday use) and wool soakers. I also love the bamboo boosters I have.

Actually trawlling around the net I discovered that you can actually buy quite a few different types of pocket nappies that do need a cover. Sellers are pretty good though and should state if the nappy requires a cover or not.;)

you should check out

www.eenee.com.au (http://www.eenee.com.au)

i cannot speak highly enough of these
they are quite different from other modern cloth and very economical once you have set up a supply. you can use 100% cloth or a combination of cloth and flushable/biodegradable disposible.

you dont need a cover for these.

Al the best Mandy - its amazing - the modern cloth world!
I use a lot of nappies that need covers cos i like to knit covers!
I think it is a little silly covering a pretty nappy!
I have a few pockets too which generally don't need covers.

I like the green kids because they dont need a cover. Their patterns are really cute!

I have however just ordered a trial pack from baby beehinds. They do need covers, so i think its just a matter of trying a few to see what you like.

Good luck with the search!

Most WAHM's will put on their site if a cover is required.
You need a cover if the nappy doesn't contain a water proof barrier. Such as PUL, fleece, or even wool. Most pocket nappies don't need covers but most fitted maps do.
Make sure you read all the info about the nappy before buying that way you know exactely what you are getting.

I'd also recommend checking out nappycino, most WAHM post on there when they are stocking and there are great product reviews as well.
