Just thought it would be nice to share ideas we might have on making things fun for the kids when they are reluctant to do something (e.g. brushing their teeth, getting dressed, leaving the park, going shopping, morning/afternoon routines - I'm sure there are lots more examples!).

I have a few examples that we do:

1. Leaving the park could sometimes end in tears because my daughter wanted to stay. So now if this looks to be the case we all depart pretending to be some kind of animal - we hop away like a kangaroo or waddle with our hands behind our backs like a penguin (might look funny but its effective). We also use this a lot for night time routines.

2. In our house we go on a ‘XXXXXXX Hunt", for example when we’re putting our pyjamas on, we sometimes sing “We’re going on a pyjama hunt – let’s see what we can see, we’re going on a pyjama hunt – where can they be” and we walk around stealthily trying to find them and eventually do and we are all so excited to find them we put them on without any fuss (well most of the time)!

3. The other day we made little steering wheels out of cardboard and drove around the house with them to clean our teeth, get dressed and then go to bed.

Would love to hear if you have any other ways of makin’ it fun for the kids because things are always easier if it is fun - and there is no harm to inject fun as often as possible into our kids lives!
