I have started a thread on crawling not sitting, as my DS is not doing either yet.
I know not to worry but I would just like to know that my boy is not the only one to start things late.
Thanks guys, the MCHN didn't make me feel to good today. :(

Oscars mum- our kids are alike! Summer sat alone at 5 months, started crawling at 8 months then didnt walk until 2 weeks after her first birthday.
Mel don't feel bad, every a baby developments at different paces. My nephew is around age as your DS and my DS2. He has only just started to roll over. My boys are advance in moving around but I remember a year ago I was stressing over my DS1 and his talking, it seem all children around his age had a huge vocabulary....Now a year later you can't stop him from talking!! Anyway enough :ecomcity: from me, your DS will be fine:)
Kailah was nearly 5 months (the week before she turned 5m) when she started sitting alone. Now at 6 months she can bend in half nearly and reach toys and then sit back up, balances herself really well too.

I wouldnt worry. My DD sat at 6mnths but she is almost 1 and not even crawling.
She is ready to walk though.
They all do things in there own time.

My boy is about 2.5 weeks younger (born towards the end of January this year), just started sitting unsupported this week, not crawling, but just started squirming around the floor with purpose this week too. I reckon he will combat crawl in the next 1-2 weeks.
He's also completely disinterested in solids, so still fully breastfed. He's also pretty placid.
My MCHN wasn't at all concerned when I saw her 3 weeks back.
my ds sat alone from about 3 months

DD sat at 5mnths
DS sat at 5 and a half months
I know of some babies crawling before they can sit, it just means they usually don't walk until they have learnt to sit!! All kids are different..

coby sat up at 6 months unaided... was slow on crawling.. didnt think he would ever crawl... thought i would have to carry him forever...

DD sat, unaided, completely upright at 8months(*maybe just before) I dont consider sitting up and leaning against things or being wobbly as sitting up.
she is now 9.5months and, well her defiantion of crawling is bringing her knees up, dragging herself foward and not moving her knees cept for with her. (god bless floorboards)

DS sat at 6 months but didnt crawl till after 10 months!! He rolled around everywhere before crawling. I didnt think he was every going to crawl and got really worried about it. But they all do it in their own time, he crawled and pulled himself up all in the same day and has been on the move ever since. He isnt walking yet and i dont think he will be before his 1...but only time will tell. He just got up one day and crawled!

DS can sit unaided for a while, that is when SHE wants to. But at the moment she is more interested in getting herself back on her hands and knees to rock!:D
DS sat at 8months.... but was crawling at 5 mths, not walking yet (nearly 1)

My DS could sit unaided at 10 months of age, if I put him in a sitting position. At 12 months he was able to go from lying on the floor to sitting up by himself and now at 14 months he has only just started crawling.
I used to worry all the time that he wasn't reaching his milestones at the same rate as other kids, but I have learnt he will do it in his own time.
How long do they have to sit there to be considered doing it alone?
Because DD will sit and support herself for about 20 seconds at a time before losing her balance and falling sideways... She's just started to move her hands to try and stop herself from falling :D
I wouldn't walk away and leave her on tiles or anything though...
She's 5 months in about a week

My daughter didn't sit unaided until she was 8mths, only started commandoing at 12mths and at 14mths has started pulling herself up but still no walking. She can however say a huge number of words - every baby is different and don't measure your child against another one. They all do things when they are ready.
Jacob rolled over one day, and then just SAT UP  at 6 1/2 months.

It's a bit bizzare, but Ronan was walking at 10 months, but still unable to sit. This made all the falls a bit interesting- straight onto the back of the head and never just onto his bum!!
my cleva bum was crawling at 4mnths, sat up by himself from his crawling just b4 5mnths n was walking at8n a half mnths...he didnt say much however until he was 20mnths, now he wnt sit dwn OR shutup! Dnt stress, sum babies accelrate is some areas n dawdle in others...

Elouise sat unaided at 5 months, started to commando crawl at about 6 months and is still doing that now at 7.5 months. Hasn't mastered getting up on all 4's yet - is still trying. She is a little rocket with the commando crawling, though:smiliedance:
my bubba didn't sit be herself till nearly 6 1/2 months old, she didn't crawl till about 9 months old and didn't walk till way after her 15 month birthday. I started getting worried she didn't sit properly so I got her one of those zoo pillows and propped her up in it. As soon as we started doing that she decided she would bum shuffle forward and try sitting upright by herself and we use to praise her.
She started commando crawling soon after but only started crawling properly after we got back from Singapore when she was about 9 1/2 months old when she used to try to crawl after my cousin's little boy who was 7mths older but couldn't quite do it.
She started pulling herself on things at about 11 months but refused to take any steps till we went to NZ when she was 14 months old and took one or two steps but when we got back in March this year she was off and running and now she's running and we have a tough time catching up
I just remembered something funny. We used to pull Jess up to a sitting position and then she would sit holding her feet for about 5 mins very proud of herself and then let her feet go and fall backwards thankfully on very thick carpet and look like upside turtle and look so startled that she would roll over and get on all fours rocking back and forth

Try not to worry about it too much. All babies are different. It will happen in time.
Just remember that once they are on the move there is no turning back. Enjoy it while it lasts I say!
