Hi!
I went to my lovely doc yesterday for a pap smear and TTC checkup. I'd been expecting maybe blood tests, the rubella check, etc etc, but all it was was the smear, blood pressure, a breast exam and a skin cancer lookover.
Should there have been more? Did I get off lightly? lol
What was your checkup like?

That's pretty much what I had, pap smear, breast check, but I did have a blood test. This checked different levels of different things- ie white blood cell count etc- and rubella immunity.
Perhaps your doc had a reason for not checking it for you? Have you had a blood test recently or something similar?

Nope, no blood tests recently.. it was the same doc who took my implant out, and i keep getting told that she should have told me to hold of TTC for a cycle but she didnt do that either. maybe she is just relaxed towards it all haha.

Hi  My first check-up was the same as yours just a smear, breast exam and the Dr told me I was healthy and all I needed to do was take folic acid. But we have been ttc around 9 months now and nothing. So I recently went and seen a different Dr - she has sent me for a fertility test (21 day bt), rubella immunity and toxoplasma test (which is really important if you have pet cats - and we have 2). If you are worried - just ask your Dr for a bt. Good luck!

I had the full works of smear, breast, bloods... My bloods came back a bit crazy the 1st time, so 1 month later she made me go have some more bloods taken just to make sure i was ok and healthy. She has also got me on blackmore pregnancy tablets...

Good luck TTC

I didnt really have one, i had had a smear in the past 2 years but i took myself to the GP and asked for some basic bloods, although i knew I was healthy as i eat a varied diet and do regular excercise I wanted to be sure because Im a vegetarian.

However once a month I see a naturpoath/nutritionist who monitors my suppliments and stress/anxiety levels..

Yeah I guess I was the same, I eat a vego diet and exercise quite often. I would have to say it would depend on your medical history to what the gp will want to check. Mine took bloods, as i have quite low levels of iron and high level of the stress hormone, and i wanted that more than my gp did. I just wanted things to be perfect before TTC.

 Girls,

I didn't have a pre-conception check at all with my DS...just wasn't time as I fell pregnant straight away, first cycle off the pill.

This time has being - differant - we have being trying for 10 years (on and off)
there has being numerous m/c's and complications....these have only being investigated in Nov'05 after the 9th m/c; I then went to a sleep clinic for a diagnosis of sleep apnea #1 culprit of the habitual miscarriages as well,
I saw an Gyn/OB who ordered a thorough ivestigative blood tests (he tested EVERYTHING including chromosomes)

I have now being under the care of my Gyn/OB since Feb'06 - - so you could say I didn't have a pre-conception until problems arose.

It might be a good idea to get the blood test for rubella immunity done. I had this checked and it turns out I wasn't immune (despite having the injection as a teenager). I had to be immunised and wait three months, which seemed like forever. Apparently rubella is incredibly contageous and is very dangerous to an unborn child so it's better to check it out before you get pregnant.
