Hi Everyone!
I've been on here before complaining about my DS 7's severe eczema. How I have to apply moisturiser every hour. How he has to have at least 3 showers a day. How i go through 12 tubes of advantan a week and use steroid wet wraps every other day. How he misses so much school. How he is starting to cry at night complaining that other kids at school are picking on him because he is so flakey and scabby etc. YOu all know how it is..
So about a month and a half ago I went on an internet spending spree buying everything that 'claimed' to 'cure' eczema - I bought from India, New Zealand, America... hahaha there were packages coming in every day! What a waste of money they all turned out to be!!
But one of the ones I bought was this oil called Udo's Oil. It's basically just a blend of all your omega 3, 6 & 9's. like fish oil, flaxseed oil etc. wich he takes everyday anyway - about 10 capsules a day! poor kid.
But this oil 'claimed' that if you took 2-3 tablespoons a day you would see results in 3 week and there was a testimonal and everything (like there always is ;)).. anyway so I got rid of all my other oil tablets - kept the pro-biotics and multi-vitamins though - and started this oil.
2 weeks later we were in hospital with another infection. He had a week out of school with intensive wet wraps.
1st day back in the end of his 3rd week on this oil he came home from school scratching like mad destroying all the good progress we had made from the week off. :( - oils not working I thought - dam I had my hopes up and everything.
Made another appointment at the hospital dermatologist, immunologist and naturopath.
End of the third week my appointment with the dermatologist came around, Hunter was covered in pussy scabs which we got antibiotics for and he prescribed a stronger steroid. But they said to keep using the emulysifying ointment that I normally use because he skin looked well mositurised??
Took him to the immunologist a few days later - scabs had healed, infection had gone - hadn't used any of the new steroid yet as he hadn't had a flare up since. Immunologist said keep doing what you doing as he doesn't look bad and his skin is quite soft. Come back if it gets bad again.??... ok.....
Its now 3 days after that appointment. I now only moisurise Hunter twice a day, once in the morning, once at night. He is soft, white and normal looking. He hasn't flared since Monday last week! He is even back to eating things that normally would make him flare. Not even playing on grass on a 38 degree day has set him off!
I'm positive its because of this oil! I add it to his banana shakes (which I make with rice milk). He doesn't even notice!
Please try it! Seriously! I'm so glad I stuck with it!
We went to the beach yesterday arvo after a whole day at school and by 9.30 at night he was still soft and smooth and white without needing to re-apply moisturiser! We have NEVER gone a whole day like that before without him being red, cracked and bumpy and miserable by the end of the day!
sorry this was so long but you have no idea how happy I am!! Please try it!

That's fantastic news.

I've just started taking eczema shield (probiotic powder - I'm BFing) and bathing DD in potassium permanganate (enough to make the water light pink), both her skin and my skin are clearing up...

I'll keep the oil in mind. Where did you get it and how much did you pay?

It was about $45 + postage for about 3-4 weeks supply. Delia Health supplys it. I haven't really looked around yet for other suppliers so you might find one locally. I'm pretty happy with Delia though because she sends me heaps of information on eczema and health. Received a CD the other day out of the blue with the history of Udo's Oil.
I've never heard of potassium permanganate. I will google it :) love google ;)

Just wanted to pop on and say a quick update a week later... DS's skin is now completely clear! Not dry at all. He moisturises himself at night now and that's all he needs (although I reckon he doesn't even need that but I'm just being cautious). The best thing now though is that he isn't flaring up AT ALL when he comes into contact with the things he's allergic to - grass, dust, MILK, oranges, tomatoes, etc!! I have no idea why this oil isn't known to everyone! 7 years of dry, scabby, bleeding, itchy red hell and now its completely gone! Life is much easier now I can tell you that! :smiliedance: We can go straight from school to soccer to dinner etc without having to come home to have a shower in between each! No having to bring cream and antihistamines whereever I go. He can have sleep overs without me having to pack a bag of medicines and a provide a list of instructions to the mum! :celebrate: so so happy!

Hi Wendy

I'm so happy to hear that it is still working wonders for you.

Which oil is it? I've seen some different blends advertised, but can't get onto that site you recommended (they need flash, I'm on my phone). Also, how does your son take it? Is it orally administered? What does it taste like?

Thanks :)
Really should get online and buy some!!

I got mine from Delia Health. It's called Udo's Oil 3,6,9 Blend.

My DS takes 2 tablespoons every day mixed in a banana and honey smoothie made with rice milk. he doesn't even notice. It tastes like any other oil really -I can turn it into a salad dressing or pour it into soup or onto bread like margarine. But I prefer adding it to the smoothie because its more accurate that way and I know he will drink the whole thing. It literally took a full 3 weeks to notice anything but it was sooo worth the wait!

He said yesterday something about not being able to do something because he had eczema and I said "where?" He turned over his arm to show me his wrist, then looked closely at it and was like 'huh'. He then searched his entire body and could only find a little rough patch on his heel. You should have seen the grin on his face - it was awesome! His skin is actually smoother and more moisturised than mine now and I don't have eczema!
