I have a really swollen jaw line and my dads a doctor and had a look at me and said that i should go and see a gp tomorrow because it looks like it could be the mumps :eek: which would make sense because I spend 80% of my time around children! Does anyone know a lot about it, like how long you're contagious for and how long it usually lasts? Im having a stress attack because next week im doing a helping grandparents job for two weeks while the parents go overseas and im supposed to be doing all the driving coz the grandparents dont drive and all the cooking etc. :banghead: I hope its not the mumps!!!!!

Aren't most of us immunised against mumps? I'm pretty sure that many around my age/20-somethings were immunised and then given boosters in primary school. I could be wrong though.
My glands up there swell prior to a bad cold/head cold and once when I had the flu.
Do you feel sick?

Aw baby I am so sorry to hear that.
Hope it is not but if it is please take good care of yourself. Maybe this is why you haven't been feeling the best over the last week or so?

I was just reading this about mumps as I thought DD had it.
Caused by a virus, mumps is a salivary gland infection. It takes between 12 and 25 days for symptoms of this disease to show after infection. People may be infectious 6 days before symptoms develop and up to 9 days after they go away.
The mumps virus is passed through air droplets and contact with the saliva of an infected person.
Symptoms of measles include:
swelling under the jaw area;
fever;headache; and
aching muscles.
Complications of the disease include serious infection of other glands and body parts, such as testicles, ovaries, pancreas, liver, brain and heart. Hearing loss can occur due to nerve damage and mumps can cause sterility in some men.
Mumps is a vaccine preventable disease.
Hope that helps & I hope its not mumps that you have :hugs:
