My 8 week old won't sleep at home for more then an hour during the day. I watch for the signs of her getting tired so put her down then but as soon as she's in bed she starts crying. Iv tried leavin her to cry for a while then going in re-wrapping her, give her a cuddle(she sometimes then falls asleep in my arms) then put her back to bed. But after a long time I get her back up coz it's obvious she's not going to go to sleep.
She will sleep if in the car or if we are at other peoples houses but not at home.
At night she is the same bit after a while she falls asleep and only wakes once or twice between 12am and 7am. She goes down for the night around 8.

Any idea how I could get her to sleep during the day? I have 2 other young children that need my attention also.

Sorry can't help. But just wanted to say my ds only ever slept 40 Mins at a time during the day until he was 6 months old.

Maybe carry bubs in a sling during the day and they might sleep longer?

Anything of about an hour is considered a decent sleep (sorry I know damn well that's not helpful when you need time) as it's more than 1 sleep cycle, so babe isn't just waking at the end if the cycle IYKWIM.
Does your babe seem happy when they wake?
My son was a diabolical day sleeper. The ergo was my savior. He would sleep in that (usually and with much cajoling) for up to a couple of hours. Usually 1-1.5.
I am now using the same method with my daughter. If she's not interested in the cot, in she goes and she will sleep in it for literally hours while i hang out with DS.

My son got better at about 5-6 months.

I agree with Kar. I think you have to judge it on how happy bub is when she's awake. My DS was a shocker. In fact for about 8 weeks during the day he would be awake for 1 1/4 hours or so, then sleep for 15 minutes. It was terrible! I tried everything to get him to sleep longer, but nothing worked and it completely stressed me out. He was really happy when he was awake, though, and I eventually came to the realisation that he just needed to sleep this way. On a positive note, he was out like a light at night!!

I'd love to say he improved, but he's almost 2 and still doesn't sleep much. Not what you want to hear, I know!!

Anyway, if she's happy you might just be better going with the flow and putting her in a sling to spend time with your older kids.

My son was exactly the same - he would sleep for about 20 minutes a time during the day from 8 weeks til about 16 weeks, then he would sleep for 40 mins at a time. I tried everything - sleep school, private sleep consultant, every book you can imagine. I gave up around the 7 month mark and figured it was just him. When he turned 8 months - BAM! All of a sudden he would sleep for 1.5-2 hours twice a day! It was pure and unadulterated bliss. Sadly, I Did absolutely nothing differently, it was just when he was ready. He's now 14 months and having one sleep of 2-3 hours a day. There were a few of my friends who had similar issues, and they all resolved around the 7-9 month mark.

I know that isn't a solution, but sometimes it's nice to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Baby at that age should be getting 4 to 6 hours sleep at least if I remember correctly? Or more? Sorry it seems like ages ago LOL

There's so many factors affecting their day sleep, they could include if they are warm enough, hunger etc. Or maybe she was looking for you to rely on to fall asleep. It's great that she's sleeping through for some hours at night.

Some books like SOS is a good starting point to get some info. Although I have found that day sleep is sometimes harder to tackle with than night sleep.

no advice sorry (except boob then back to bed ;))

My DD didnt sleep longer then 40mins during the day untill she was almost 10weeks old (at which point she started sleeping in hour streaches) she was probably almost 12 weeks old before she was sleeping any longer then that during the day.

I feel for you! DS2 was a catnapper until about he was about 1. When I realised that there was not really any way I could get him to sleep more (without a hell of a lot of screaming) I just gave in and went with what he wanted. I don't know if that helps at all :)

I'm a huge fan of the hug-a-bub and I find that my bubs have all slept beautifully in there and I've been able to keep going with everything during the day. Sometimes it's a less stressful option than listening to them crying all the time. Also I found some of the settling ideas in the book Baby Bliss, were really effective for more hands-on settling and I'm a total dummy-pusher. I love them :)

Good luck!:hugs:
