I'm not sure I'm going to do this but... it's an idea.

would anyone be interested in thin highly absorbent cloth nappies?
or is the market too full or them already?

I'm going to make my son one before I make any decision but I'd thought I would ask if the idea itself is feasible.

Will they be natural fibers?? I would only buy natural nappies.

what are they made of how much do they cost?

bundmum

of course they would be made out of natural fibers (I wouldn't put anything else on my own child)

What sort of fabric would they be made from?

I would suggest bamboo rather than hemp.

It's far more absorbent and doesn't get a 'barnyard' smell like hemp does.

eww.. don't want a barnyard smell so bamboo it is.

Personally I think the market is kind of flooded.. BUT if you get a good pattern happening, and design a nappy that can
- contain poo-plosions
- doesn't leak
- fits nicely around the legs
-doesn't get wing droop
- is adjustable to different babies fatness
- fits nicely under clothes
-can be boosted for night use (or has a night nappy counterpart)
- and is affordable
PLUS has a 'cuteness' factor

Then you could break into it.

GOOD LUCK:thumbsup:

there are quite a few online fabric stores that stock bamboo... shop around and get a few samples.

Choose a fabric that is thick enough to not need more than about 4 layers :) for a long lasting (say 3 hours) nappy.

aye, well that was my intention but whether it ends up working is another matter.

I may be missing the point but wouldn't such a nappy exist if it were possible?

If you kept the price under 25 I would. The thing that keeps me from buying more is the price of them.

Unfortunately, I think you'll find that highly absorbent and thin don't really go hand in hand with cloth nappies.

hmm... maybe... but you never know unless you try.

There is another VERY well known, been around since the start of MCN, brand, called 'cherub's kiss'. I would be careful with name choice, as it could crash and burn so easily by stepping on the wrong persons toes.

As for trim and absorbent, I can think of heaps of the top of my head, not a new market at all. BBH petites, itti's, grovia's, nicnaps, envious, the list goes on. I find probably 50% of the mcn market now is 'slim'.

I was just about to say the same thing as LeeJ ... there is a very popular brand called Cherubs Kiss and Cherubs Cheeks is a very similar sounding name. Personally I'd go for a name that isn't similar to anything else so you can create your own identity.

yeah I've already decided on a name similar to my blankets.

I tested the nappy on my boy today and it works! It was on him for 4 1/2 hrs before I changed him and it still hadn't leaked. :D:D:smiliedance:
