Hey there all,

Just wanted some ideas on what to get DD for Christmas. She will be 8 months old. This is our first Christmas having to buy for a daughter, we have only had boys up until now. :smiliedance::yelclap: :smiliedance: I have only got her 2 things so far and they are the Learning Puppy and a blow up pool like thing that comes with balls.

Any suggestions would be great, and if you know the price and where to get it that would be good to.

Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest a really good teddybear. One that will go the distance into adulthood.

How about a special christmas decoration like a bauble with her name on it or a christmas stocking.

Some other practical things you could get are a flip out sofa, a ride on car (might take her a while to grow into it), a doll's pram or shopping trolley, a lawn mower, books, clothes, russian nesting dolls, puzzle, shape sorter, stacking rings.

That is about all I can think of:)

Last Christmas we bought our daughter the fisherprice blocks...with the shapes and objects inside them and the round ones. They range between $15 - $50 depending what size pack you buy, at any department store.
As they start to walk, I have found they love the umbrella style stroller with a baby doll.

My mum got her a teddy before she passed away in Dec and that one will last the distance. We always get the kids a "first Christmas" decoration for the tree and my MIL will get her a personalised stocking like she got the boys.

But thanks for the other things.

Keep the ideas coming, it's hard for DH and I to agree on stuff so the more the better.

We got my son those blocks too....lots of them, along with the Wagon and hippo and giraffe that go with them...and he loves them...he was only 6 months at the time, and still played with them, helps them with learning too.

I hadn't thought of a tea set.

for DS first christmas he was 6 months and we brought him a fisher price activity table, a bike that turns into a scooter, a fisher price swing for outside, and lots of little toys. he didnt use them all straight away but he loved and still does love the activity table it has the ABCs 123s colours shapes and music he plays with it for hours.

I would definately recommend an activity table. Another thing DD really liked was a Fisher-Price toolbench...that lights up and plays music. She couldn't use the hammer attachment, and instead just pushed/hit the "nails" down.

We have the learning puppy, but DD's just not interested (and she's now 13 months). She'll push it occassionally, but that's about it.

The activity table and the the toolbench were pretty much the main toys she played with when she was about 8 months old. A ball (just a regular ball) can also be good fun...for rolling around and crawling after!

my youngest will be 6 months at christmas and we have got her the laugh and learn playhouse. My other daughter got the laugh and learn puppy for her 1st birthday and it is ALL 4 kids favourite toy still almost 3 months later lol

For DD1's first christmas she was 6 months also and we got her a sesame st push along bike thing with a top part so when they cant hold themself up they can still sit in it and its got a handle for parents to push it, its great, she loves it and now shes 14 months can scoot around on the bike on her own! We also got her a fairy costume (couldnt help myself - first DD lol). I cant remember what else she got... but she got a tonne.

 That's exactly what I've got on layby for my DD - who will be 9 months at Christmas. Oh, and a swing for outside too.

I'm a sucker for Elmo, so I'll be checking the new TMX model out and then plan for a way to sneak it past DH who believes that Elmo is evil :devil6:

My DS is almost 1 and for his 1st birthday I got him a table and chairs. I figure it will serve allot of purposes, one being when my nephews come over; a dinner table. I got mine from IKEA, I got the more expensive one but there's another that I was looking at getting. It was a wooden one and it came with 2 chairs. It's $59, not stained so you could actually get her some paints and you could have fun painting it yourselves. Get her and/or your DS's to do an art picture. Or get them to paint all there own chair (you'll have to buy an extra).

I only have a few things for DS, he will be 9 months. I have got him a shell sandpit thing, a little trike with a trailer (not that he will be able to ride it alone, but will still be fun) and a set of three tonker trucks. I dont really see the point of getting heaps of stuff as they are probably going to bemore interested in the wrapping lol. But am going to get a stocking for him (usually made by my grandmother) and fill that full of little toys, maybe a few cars and some blocks or something.

And as you said there are so many other people that will get her stuff, and she wont remember it anyways. Gee i sound really mean and grinch like dont i lol. But that is what i am doing anyways lol

By the way i love the cabbage patch idea, they are great!!

We got our little girl the laugh and learn play house when she was 6 months old. (I got it on special and couldn't resist giving it to her!) It took her a couple of months to get the hang of it and now she is 11 months (she'll be 1 next Sunday!) she loves it. Its her favourite toy, she plays with it flat out and I now know all the words to the songs!!

I'd buy her a couple of toys that she will play with at Christmas time, an activity centre, bath toys, LeapFrog have some good 0-36 month toys etc, but don't go overboard. You'll have a big first birthday only 4 months after Christmas and will want to leave yourself something special to buy her.

I'd save things like tea sets, doll bits and pieces (clothes, prams, cots etc) and FP Little People until she is older. And when possible buy dolls that have no 'real' hair, my 3YO DD is a reall dolly girl, but still doesn't have a doll with hair, saves me having to deal with the tangles and dramas it presents.

Most first Christmas' kids love the wrapping paper more than the toys.

I'm another one of those stingy mums - my DS is getting a play table that turns into a walker (the ones they stand behind and push) so it will grow with him, and maybe a ball and some stacking cups. He will get enough from others and at his 1st bday 4 months later. Also our home isn't that big so we can't fit heaps and heaps of toys - he's still got plenty of bdays and christmases to come! and it's more about the wrapping paper at this age:D

Mel

PS Your kids are lucky, probably my DS will complain when he gets old enough "muuuummmm, the other kids have more toys than me!"
