I have noticed that one of my sons front teeth has a grey/bluish tinge to it and not sure if this is a sign of tooth decay???

He brushes his teeth twice a day but tends to swallow the toothpaste and chew on the toothbrush rather than brush his teeth but we manage to brush his teeth ok as I use a different toothbrush on him at the same time. He drinks from a bottle still but once the milk is gone he tosses the bottle aside he doesn't suck on the teat and he doesn't take his bottle to bed.

He does have fruit juice/cordial as well as water so not sure if this is causing it just wondering if any one else has ever seen this and what it means.

He had his 2 year old check a couple of weeks but refused to open his mouth for the health nurse and I had not noticed the discolouration at this stage so didn't mention it to her.

Has he banged his tooth at all? Sometimes a really hard knock can cause deadening in the tooth. Does he drink the juice and/or cordial from a bottle. This is the fastest way to tooth decay in babies and toddlers. even if they only drink and then put the bottle down, as while they are drinking, the liquid is coating their teeth. It might pay to just call a dentist and ask for some advice if he doesn't want to open his mouth (my DS#1 was a bit like that). Sorry I don't have any more advice than that. i'm sure we have a dental nurse or two here on Bubhub-they'll find this post, I'm sure. :)

Milk is the only thing he drinks from the bottle and he has had a few knocks, typical toddler stuff such as falling over, walking into walls/doors but nothing too bad. Thanks for replying!!

Best to just get to a dentist and get it checked. If he hasn't been sucking on a dummy or bottle that has been laced with sugars (honey, cordial, juices etc) for extended periods (> 30 min and in high frequency), then it's unlikely to be decay.

I'm guessing it's more likely he's fallen over on his front tooth, they can can go grey after that, but it shouldn't be anything to worry about if he's still eating normally.

Yep Nelly I agree with these ladies, sounds like a knock to the tooth. A trip to the dentist will answer all your questions anyway.

PS, yes Sal you were right, I'm a dental assistant
