Hi

My Jessica is 20 months old but she still moves all around the bed at night in her sleeping bag. I bought a pillow a few months ago, thinking it would "centre" her but it hasn't. Not really a problem except I'm wondering when I can put her into a big girls bed, with a side bar to start with.

What have other people done?

hi,

I moved my 19 month old daughter to a big bed 5 days ago and so far so good.
I first tried her in the bed first at her daytime nap, except she kept climbing out and lauging about it all. So, i tried the next day at night and she stayed there. I tuck her in and lay next to her and read a book, then say goodnight.
She has fallen out a couple of times ( we have a little matress on the floor) and my husband found her sleeping under the bed one night.
But, other than that she took to it great and she now also has her day sleeps in it too.
I think you just have to perservere.

Oh, we did have her cot in there for the first couple of days and gave her a choice to which one she wanted to sleep in.

Goodluck

We put our eldest in a big bed when she was about 17 months old as we needed the cot for Abigail. Zoe was definitly a little girl who moved around we used a side rail and she only fell out once because we did not have the rail close enough to the top of the bed. We also made sure the bed was in a corner. Other than that it was a painless move, we also get in bed and read her a bedtime story before her day and night sleep.

I put my kids into a big bed with a bed rail at 15 and 17 mths. They both "slept like a clock!" but the bedrail was a great help and they almost never fell out.

I have found that now my kids will sleep in almost the same position they settle in for most of the night unless it is overly hot when they seem to try and find a cooler spot on the bed all night long and end up in some incredibly funny positions!

Hi
I have just put my 21month DD into a big bed. At first i had her laying on the floor on the mattress as she loved her cot mattress, mind you she did roll around alot on the floor when she was alseep, i was worried about putting her in a bed, but we eventually did, 2 weeks ago. I have a bed rail on one side and the other side against the wall. She hasn't fallen out of bed at all.

Thanks everyone. We're off to the UK for 3 weeks in 3 weeks time, where she will be sleeping in a travel cot. So I think that when we return, we will turn her cot into a bed and put the side rail on with something soft on the floor. Thanks for all your posts. :)
