View Full Version : I called the police on a "mother" today and I don't feel an ounce of guilt!
I went to the beach today with my family and spent about an hour swimming and enjoying the beach. We'd left our towels, clothes etc under the jetty. When we returned to our bags there was a group of young people there drinking (in a dry zone) under a beach tent... under the jetty???
Anyway, they had a toddler with them. She wouldn't have been any more than 18 months at the most - an adorable, blonde, cherub-looking baby that anybody would love to simply scoop up and take home!
She picked up one of the empty beer bottles and I saw a hand swipe out from the tent, yank her arm very hard and yelled at her "stop it you f&*king little c&#t"... I didn't want to make eye contact because her voice was very loud and VERY threatening. Our stuff was behind their tent. DS said "they're naughty" and DP asked me if I wanted to stay and get changed etc because he was concerned too (and trying hard not to say anything!) The language (and I think I even heard a threat of hitting!!!!!!!!) continued well after we'd stormed off.
I said no and drove back in my bikini - I was SO angry. I really wish I'd taken my mobile with me! Got back to my parent's house and called the local police immediately and told them everything. They said they'd send a patrol over and asked me if I'd be happy to make a statement yadda yadda..
I'm beginning to grow a low tolerance for this kind of behaviour. I am really hoping that little girl is okay. What a little darling :( to be treated like that. They looked pretty settled with the tent, eskies etc so I'm hoping they were still there by the time the police came :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:
I'm feeling so sad, that was simply awful and so hard to see.

Why do they even bother having children if they are going to treat them like that :(
Glad you rang the police.

Good on you Benji.
That poor little girl. Not an isolated incident, I'm sure.
Makes me shudder to think of the possible horrible outcomes associated with the scene as you describe it.
No child and, for that matter no person, should ever be spoken to and treated in that manner.

Thankyou for calling the police. You shouldnt feel guilty at all
Glad u called! Will the police update u?
I hope so! I haven't given a statement yet, I assume they will need me to go into the station for that which I will be *more* than happy to do. I really hope they found them!!

I shudder, too. If that is her behaviour on a packed beach.. imagine their home life
Good on you.
That poor little sweetheart. I hope the police gave the parents the wake up call they so obviously need.

the only problem with the police
is these people have no respect for their own child they are hardly going to care about what the police are going to say by the time child protecting gets involved in these cases it all a case of far to little far to late
sometimes I feel animals get a better chance when neglected they can get removed first then questions asked later - also know things are not always as they seem not suggesting every child should be removed without good reason

I hope the police find reason to have the child removed. This stuff absolutely breaks my heart and keeps me up at night.

They were really feral.. for want of a better word. I hope the police fine them for drinking in a dry zone (at the very least) and find some kind of history that will mean they need to take some kind of parenting classes or get some sort of help... anything!!
I just hope it's not a "we can't see a problem here" situation and that poor baby cops it when she gets home!

so glad they stopped making it a one off payment
not that this is entirely on topic but makes me so angry that ivf parents have to be screened yet trash like this can breed all they like something is seriously screwed up with this world
I think there's been feral parents well before baby bonus unfortunately. If only it were that simple! Look at the amount of adults today who are messed up from being abused and their families got nothing/little in the way of family assistance.
I dare say there was some alcohol abuse and/or otherwise in this situation (and this little tike was under 2 yo so she would've received the 12 month payments as opposed to the $5k...) if only it were that simple *sigh*.

I agree on what you just said Benji.
I also agree with you calling the police. My heart breaks when I see situations like that. It has happened on the beach near us too. I saw a parent give their kids a big belt in public and then say "wait til we gedd 'ome and you will see how much I can hurt ya you lil sh**". It just broke my heart. It was to boys who were around 6 to 10 in my case and they were being horrid like an ADHD kid withdrawing from crack running around throwing things and screaming abuse... but hey... bet those boys were innocent little toddlers when they learnt how to behave like that.
Good! Don't feel guilty. People are losers to treat their kids like that

Its 6mths Benji so $406 a fn. Good on you for reporting it to the police! My best friend is going through hell atm, she lost her son at 17weeks 1month ago and is in a depressive state and people like that get to have children and not treat them properly! GRR!

god that is so awful :( good on you for calling the police.
Some people are just so.... I cant even think of words strong enough.
i hope some how that little girl is taken out of the situation so the cycle doesnt continue.
There sure has been. I had a run in with one 12 years ago who told me one reason girls were getting pregnant, because they found if you got arrested and were pregnant by the time you went to court they were more lenient. She said to me, 'seriously if you every have to go to court or get in trouble with the police, get pregnant!' she was who I was fighting not to be as a 17yo mother, I had a deep desire to be as far removed from that person as I could.
I think you did the right thing ;) I wouldn't feel guilty either.

It's really annoying that there's not more help for people like this (not to mention - consequences!). I'm trying so hard not to pass judgement on the adults in the situation as they were clearly drunks/drug addicts and from a very underprivlidged background by the looks of things, I just want to take that little girl home, she was so beautiful :(
As Orris Apjoko said there's so many great people out there who want kids but can't have them and there's people who have them and treat them as possessions.
I'm still feeling rather crapola today about it. Hopefully I'll hear something about it. I figure even if there's no consequences for that particular event, if people call for situations like this people will listen and speak out for the 30 odd thousand abused children in Australia. I'm hoping that little girl is ok :fingerscrossed:

Good on you Benji!!!! I'm so happy you didn't turn a blind eye like most would.
That type of behavior really is disgusting. Poor little girl :(

Good on you. We need more mothers like you in the world. The way some children are treated now is absolutely awful. Someone needs to stand up for the children.

You did the right thing. How someone can treat a child like that i will never know. :( And i don't understand the need to drink at the beach especially with your children around.

poor little darlin .. good on you:cheerleader2:
aww... The poor little girl. No need to feel guilty at all you did the right thing!
Sadly some people have babies because they think they have it easy for the next 6 years but then they discover different and the poor kid cops it.
btw she wasn't a mother she was just a biological relative, a mother doesn't treat her child like that!

people like that make me so angry when my closest friend has been trying to have a baby with her husband for 8 years :( There are so many childless couples out there who would love to be able to have a child of thier own and ferals are popping them out left right and center to avoid having to get a friggen job.
we have a licence to drive, shoot, opperate a boat etc why not to parent?
