my DD has severe reflux and delayed gastric emptying and CMP and soy allergy (been on Neocate for 7 wks after continuous failure to thrive and weight loss/plateaus while I was BF her on a highly restricted diet). My gastroenterologist suggested the sweet potato, pumpkin, pear and apple. We have to steer clear of potato and banana due to constipation which causes terrible reflux flare-ups. We have discovered we can't really ahve much wheat either after we tried a small amount of cous cous in her food caused screaming for the rest of the day.

Most of the jars contain either potato, banana, wheat or dairy so we have had not much luck with them.

Can anyone suggest any meal ideas or snacks that would be suitable for a baby her age? I am not so worried about getting food into her but I am wanting her to start to try new thing so that she can experience new textures/ tastes and develop her gums/chewing action.

If I wanted to get help on introducing foods, is it best to see a dietitian or can anyone suggest any literature I could read to get some more info. We have had to postpone our Gastro appt for Feb due to us having to move house so just want to find out some more info before i see the dr again (hope to get ph appt or a cancellation in a few weeks). I really have no idea what else she may be intolerant to as the Gastro really didn't want her eating much else than Neocate and a few solids until her reflux got under control.

Hi there,

My bub has just been diagnosed with rice FPIES (Food Protien Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome) There are lots of foods that can trigger this severe allergic reaction so we have been referred to the children's hospital to sort through what to do next.

There is a dietician there who I am hoping is going to give us alot more guidance as to what foods to try and those to avoid. I would suggest going to a paed dietician, I'm not sure where you are but if you have a childrens hospital in the area perhaps they have a dietician for you to see?

Good luck!

Hi OP,

Did your GI say anything about the cause of your babies reflux? My 18 month year old has just been diag GERD, Esophagus ulcers, gastritis and duedeonitis. Just trying to find answers etc!

sorry for such a late reply but gastroenterologist said that the reflux was caused by the soy/dairy allergy causing her system to get backed up as she cannot process the food, so she becomes excessively constipated and clogged- so when she takes in more food there is nowhere for it to go so it comes up at the top as vomiting. the inability to tolerate the foods causes inflammation to the insides of her system which causes blood in vomit and poo.

oh wow your poor little girl! My girls have cmpi and sesame allergies, tho they can have soy. Someone on here suggested oat milk was a good replacement for dairy/soy (in cooking). You can make lots of meals out of rice. Buckwheat is not actually wheat, its rhubarb! You can get buckwheat pasta and pancakes in the health food section. Gluten free recipes can give you lots of ideas.

She has a restrictive diet for sure but the most helpful advice i got, and it was from another hubber ages ago, was to focus on what you can have rather than what you can't. Puts a real positive spin on it all.

So come up with a few staples you know she can tolerate, then make a written list of all the things you think she CAN eat. And show that to your doctor. Once its approved, you can make up or adapt recipes. That's what i did, hth :hugs:
