Hi, I just started a new job a few days ago. I wanted a job that started very early and finish in time for me to be home when my husband went to work at 7am or an evening job that started after 7:30 when my husband got home from work.

My new job is cleaning, which I start at 3:30am:eek: and finish in time for me to be home when my husband leaves. I'm really excited ( although a little nervous as I will be working on my own) as I will now be earning money and I get to spend my days with my dd. Its 6 mornings a week which is another downfall, although small one.

I'm just wondering if I'm kidding myself, I know peoples initial reaction is "Am I crazy" and "I won't be able to do it". I have every bit of faith that I can and the benefits are sooooo worth it. I am a night owl, so get by on small amounts of sleep anyway, which is why I knew I could do this.

I just wanted to know if there are any other Mums out there that are working strange hours and how you are going.

Sorry for the long dribble.

I don't work strange hours but my DP does and he has the girls every afternoon while I go to work. He is a grizzle bum when he is tired but he copes okay. Women are much more resilient and if I worked his hours (which I have in the past) I think I would cope better than he does some days!!

You are not crazy and good on you for not letting other people get you down. If you enjoy it then it won't be hard for you to do

I work nightfill and so far my hours have been from 7pm - 1am, by the time I get home and unwind it is 3am and I am back up by 6am

And yep, a few people have asked me why I want to work in a job like this with kids, and there is no real reason, the opportunity came up and I took it and I will work it out. People should not be critising us, but supporting us!

I work dawn fill am up at 3am - til 8am, 6 days a week, then awake all day to play and care for our son........ I was nervous too, but I had my first shift this morning and was fine, I havent needed a sleep, and have been on the ball........ I dont think your crazy at all.....its a part of life, we cant all choose what hours we work, and for me this early morning work fits in perfectly with my life.....

I too am a night owl, I usually go to bed at 3am, now I have to get up at 3am, but I went to bed at 10pm and got 5 hours sleep, waking only once during the night, and thet was plenty of sleep for me........

Hope your job goes well, have faith in yourself and you can achieve anything you set your mind too..........And congrats on the job......

Oh its so nice to hear I'm not the only one working such strange hours. I am really stoked I got this job because it really suits me perfectly. Sometimes when you get negative comments (most people have been good), you start to question whether or not your capable.
Thanks everyone for your support :hugs: .

I work awful hours and want to give it up!
I start anywhere from 4pm to 7pm and can finish as late (or ealry:rolleyes: ) as 3.30am!!!!!
I am soooo sick of it. It was bad enough when I was preggers but now I have the 2 girls it is taking it's toll. I am desperate to get out ans am trying to get a home business off the ground at the mo.

It's good for some and was for me for a while but it's really just too much now.

Ah don't doubt yourself, you will do fine, may take a while to get a routine happening and work out times for rest and work and being a mum and wife etc but it works out!:D

my hubby was going to work at 2 or 3 every morning at one stage with his cleaning job and getting home at 9 am if not latr after a whil it got the best of him and he finally started going of a night time and now that he has the extra time and energey has 2 jobs... its not nice to not see him offten but because he owns the buissness i can go to work with him and it dont make me feel so bad for letting him work to jobs while i sit at home growing a baby inside me (lol like its easy) but i also get to spend time with him! if u can handle the work go for it there can be alot of money in it but the moment you start to get worn down stop or youll never be the same!

Great to hear from others who also work odd hours. I am in the hospitality industry so my hours are mostly nights finishing around 1am and weekend work. I have 2 boys and do go through the guilt of not being there at night but I have a great husband and we work together. It would be great if people did support us and not think we are mad, we do what we have to do for our families. I have the night off tonight and the day off tomorrow so I am really going to enjoy it.

You girls are great, I knew I could count on you to make me feel better. Can you take away the fear of walking into the building at 3:30 in the morning when there is no-one around:laughing: , I'm sure I'll get used to it.
