What size clothes would you buy for a small newborn? DS was born 9lb 9oz so we started him in size 000 and he was born on the 98th percentille. This baby however is still sitting on the 36th percentille so would that be size 0000 or is that smaller?

I wouldn't bother with anything smaller than 0000's...000's for singlets. DD was born last november and was 7lb15oz and she did fit 00000's for about 3 weeks, but she only wore that size coz we had a few things given to us. It's gonna be pretty hot when your bub is born so a singlet and a nappy will be about all you need to put on him/her most of the time anyway.

my DD was born 6.4lb and fitted into 00000/0000 clothes for the first month or two, and 000 for bout the next 4 months:p

Cobey was 7lb 4oz... 50% for height and weight.. and was in 0000s until about 3 or 4 weeks I think... even now his 000s are swimming on him.. it's more the onsies in 0000 that are too small

Even though your bub is in the 36th percentile now, he/she won't necessarily stay in this percentile for the remainder of your pregnancy. My DD was 5 pounds 15 at birth (12th percentile) and was in 00000 for a while. She's 11 weeks now and is mainly in 0000.

Two other things to consider are:
1. Length. My DD is a shorty (like her mum)!
2. There doesn't seem to be universal sizing for babies' clothes. My DD can fit into a couple of 000 clothes but some 0000 are still too big for her (mostly in the length)!!

I would say 0000 are fine. I had 2 bubs who were in the 6 pound range and they might have fit 00000 for a couple of weeks but the 0000 were fine and as someone mentioned it will be summer so you will be able to have short sleeve and short leg suits on bub so the length won't be too much of a problem.

But remember babies put on the most weight in the last 3 months so you might have another bigger bub!!

The baby has stayed around that mark for the whole pg.;)

I def think 0000 are fine, might be a lil loose at first but that wont matter and they grow fast!

EJ was in 0000 for about 8 weeks i think - she was 7lb 1 when born

Eliza was just under 9lbs and wore 0000 for about 2 weeks after that she was in 000 I'd buy 000 before I bought 0000 again!
