Hi all just wanted to ask if any preemie mums used a walker?
My bub is still too little but i was wondering when she is big enough is it ok to use a walker? i remember in hospital they said not to use them or the jolly jumper and i am aware of safety issues but was interested if any preemie mums used them? and was there or is there consequences if you do?

I had one for Zach who was 9 weeks prem but i found he was always to small to use it, he turned one at only 59cm 'tall' so even on the smallest setting could never reach the ground. Complete waste.

Bella was only 5 weeks early and she used hers around half a dozen times as she was much bigger, but the safety issues stopped me using it with her. It gave her freedom before her time, she was getting into all sorts of things. I only left her in it for around 5 mins each time as I have heard, and believe, that it is bad for there legs to leave them in it for too long, so a 5 min play time was sufficient for her.

honestly, i wouldnt bother spending the money on one.. theres much better toys and whatnot out there for them that dont have the safety issues, dont require them to be a certain size and whatnot to use it :)

Thanks Charmzy... I think your right as they are not the cheapest or safest entertainment choice and i certainly dont want her running a muck around the house:laughing: .
She is still too small of course atm she loves her playmat, Hope you are going well.:hugs:

Jesse was 4 weeks prem and I had both a jolly jumper and a walker...they were both given as gifts and he adored them both! Our house didn't have any steps so he scooted around without being able to get into too much danger. He was only 4lb 1oz when he was born but once he got into the world he really caught up weightwise and he was always tall.
He absolutely adored the jolly jumper, and I thought that they were both great, but like most things in life...everything in moderation!

It is highly recommended by both Neonatologists and Physiotherapist that you NOT use Jolly Jumpers and Walkers for prems.

Prems are at a higher rise of hyperextension than full termers and both of these devices encourage this condition.

It was the one thing we were really warned about.

Thankyou doubledelight,
I remember being told NOT to use them after dd2 having physio but i couldnt remember why or for what reason. I thought it may be just the safety issues involved as there is still a large debate on this matter. But i do certainly appreciate the info!
