Just wondering if anyone has some ideas.....

Ds has started this weird behaviour, whenever he is in a chair (usually his highchair) he starts rocking his body forward and back, banging into the chair quite hard. He gets really worked up and I'm concerned he is going to hurt himself or tip the chair over. He does it especially during feed times (so feeding has become rather tiring).

He used to have a rocker, which he grew out of, and he would thump his leg really hard up and down to get it to rock. Perhaps he's missing the rocker and is hoping that the chair will start to swing?

He will stop if there's something interesting to look at, but otherwise he will do it for ages. It's driving us a bit crazy. (Just a note that his father is constantly restless, he paces, jitters etc. v. annoying. Maybe it is just a hereditry thing?)

My little one tries to get chairs to rock as well.

We found a great little safe padded kiddies rocking chair at Crazy Clarks. It looks really good, is very stable and he can rock it back and forth. I think they still have them, they come with little foot stools as well (very cute).

my ds is almost 7 months old and at about 6 months he started rocking as well. i put it down to his bouncer because in the last month he had learnt how to get a real bounce up in it by kicking his legs. ever since then he will rock when he isn't in it. not all the time but he will do it mainly when he is sitting - on the floor, on my lap etc.

My niece did this too. For her it was an attention thing as her mum is deaf. When she wanted something she banged the highchair, she grew out of it pretty quickly.
