View Full Version : New to Adelaide...

Hi girls,
I see there's not much activity in this part of the forum, mostly women from the eastern states, but hey, here's hoping someone reads this! ;)
I've just recently moved to Adelaide (Thebarton area) and i don't really know anyone locally.
I'd love to find a playgroup or other activity for my daughter where i can hopefully meet some other local mums. I'm 30, married, and expecting our #2 in Sep. I'm a stay-at-home-mummy for now, although i am interested in finding parttime work between now and delivery, for extra cash and MEET SOME PEOPLE :goodvibes:
I feel so isolated and really going stir crazy at home with nothing to do and no one to go out for coffee with lol.
Is anyone interested in having another meet up in the CBD like previously suggested??
Cheers,
I posted this thread a few weeks ago *here* (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=385827) because we tried to have a catch up early jan, but it ended up not happening.
But i think it'd be great if a few people wanted to get together again. I've been to a few meet ups and i think they're lovely, a really great way to make new friends.
(i suggested central - but put it into the 'adelaide' section rather than one of the four corners :p to get a potentially bigger turn out than the 2 that showed up last time ;))

hey shiney,
I have just moved to adelaide from sydney, I am in west croydon which isnt that far from u, I am 24 year old partnered with a 3 year old son. I do volunteer work half the week but am looking to meet other mums for weekend catch ups etc. Where are u from?

Hi W, i'm originally from Melbourne :)
What volunteer work are you doing?

"BUMP!"
...so i'm back in here banging on about the same problem :helpme:
Thru other threads elsewhere on bubhub, i've made contact with and arrangements to meet two lovely Adelaide girls :highfive:
But i'd still like to do more to meet some people and (hopefully) make some friends :fingerscrossed:
I'm just so sick of sitting home alone all day everyday :(
Sooo.... what is there to do around West Adelaide?? What can i do around here to meet people??
I went to the PBC Expo and came home with an armload of info on kindergyms, playgroup, toddler dance lessons, etc, etc, etc. DD is now well booked-up and sorted for the friend situation. But in my past experience, these activities aren't a great way to meet people as the parents are all busy helping their kids.
What are some "grown-up" activities / hobbies / etc i can get involved in here to meet people? (Keeping in mind i am pregnant). What is everybody else doing?

Hi,
You live pretty close by, I moved here about 2 years ago from overseas and I remember how hard it was to get settled in at first. We're about the same age and coincidentally also due at around the same time. This is my first child so I'm a bit of a newbie. If you're interested in a catch up let me know.
:)
Hi there, i'm not far from you either, I'm buy the airport. I grew up in Torrensville, just down from the Thebarton Theater. I'm due in 6.5w with my 2nd bub (I have a 2yr old DD) & at home now too. I'm happy to meet up.

A coffee catch up sounds nice :)
Um... where and when is good for you other ladies??
Mondays and Wednesdays are best for me.

Either of those days are good for me but I'd have to bring my DD.

:) Sounds good. What time would suit everyone? I'm fairly flexible, how does 9:30 or 10 am sound for those who are bringing their little ones?
I have to wait & see at the moment. I had DD power chucking last night apparently from a throat virus. I just want to make sure she over this before bringing her.

I somehow managed to miss the thread that indicated we were rescheduling (baby brain).....so I actually went this morning. Luckily I'm not a very patient person so I left after about 20 min or so when no other pregnant ladies seemed to appear.

k, I'll just go 10 min early and grab a table, not that many of us. Guess you can just ask the waitress for the mommy group table and we'll find one another that way

I'm really REALLY sorry to do this, but i cant make it this morning either. We've had a minor emergency pop up and i wont have time for a lovely leisurely coffee with you girls.
I need to get back to it, but will try to get on here again tonight and pm you girls my mobile number so we dont need to rely on this thread.

Sorry I missed today. Have had a family emergency over the weekend & on top of that i've come down with a cold with less than 5 weeks to my EDD too.

Hey girls, we should make the effort to organise another meet, i for one would really benefit from meeting some local mums as all my friends and family are down south :)
ShanandBoc
16-09-2011, 21:35
Oh and what playgroups if any do u all go to??
Little Crow
17-09-2011, 09:55
Yes...have dropped the ball on this one sorry!
Regarding playgroups, we go to a 3yo playgroup at Lockleys, but we'll be finished there in just a couple of weeks. And i'll have a newborn within the next few days so i won't be looking to join another playgroup just yet. Maybe next year. Or maybe we could form our own little mums group??
As for meeting up; i will have to wait and see what day bub decides to make his appearance (and how!). It could be one week or one month before i feel like getting out, i'm not sure at this stage :)
But i am still very keen to meet more local mums.
