View Full Version : GM Foods
Hi ladies,
Does anyone know much about genetically modified foods here in Australia? From the little I know about it, it is starting to worry me and as the saying goes a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous so would someone like to educate me or point me in the direction to find out more?
What do you guys think about GM foods?

We don't use GM foods. We like organic raw vegan food the best.
I'm interested to hear people's reasons for avoiding GM; apart from "we just don't know if it's safe" I'm yet to hear anything convincing.
I try to eat organic meats and fresh foods where possible, because I understand the I'll-effects of pesticides, antibiotics, etc. I'm yet to understand the I'll-effects of GM...
We avoid GM foods. It's not so much that it's unsafe NOW, how do we know what can happen 50 years down the track?
It also means that a lot of things like heritage fruits and veggies are going to become non-existent as more GM foods are introuduced.
Did you know, that in America, if a farmer has a non GM crop but ONE seed from a GM crop blows onto his property, the company who owns said GM seed/crop can and does then come and force that farmer off his land!
How do I avoid eating GM foods? Are they labelled?
It's hard. I don't think they have to be labelled in Australia yet. But I would say, buy only Australian foods because as far as I'm aware, we only grow GM canola here, so avoid anything containing canola.
Also, try and buy organic where possible, or grown your own. You could also buy from local farmers markets.
Thanks for the replies! We have just started our own veggie patch and I've bought some seeds from diggers seeds so hopefully we will be able to eat all our own veggies soon!!
