My son and I had a bath last night and he peed in the water which had baby bath oil in it. His urethra seemed to stay open for quite some time under the water. Today it looks a little bit fatter than normal and I think reddish? on his nappy there is a little yellow discharge from where the willy sits against the nappy.
should i be concerned? He is fuzzy but i think it's his teething.
I think it's sore when i touch it.

Sounds like a UTI. Does he have a temp or does he seem to be in pain when he pees?

Possibly a trip to the gp to have a check. He would have been weeing the whole time his urethra was open and if the wee was coming out it would be unusual to the oil and water to go in....has he had a bath in that oil before?
Does he cry or fuss when he is weeing now? If there is a discharge and it is red and sore to touch - I would take him to doc - he may need antibiotics. But don't fret it may not have had anything to do with the bath, it may just have been co-incidental.

I was going to say it sounded like a Urinary Tract Infection also. My son has had them and also got that yellowish discharge in his nappy. Take him to the doc and get it checked out - they are fairly uncommon in infant boys but it does happen. They will get you to put a little baggie over him and wait for him to pee and then test it. If it is a UTI then it most likely will require antibiotics. It is in liquid form and is usually banana or strawberry flavoured stuff. DS actually liked the taste. LOL!

Ok I've had him laying without a nappy on to wait for a wee. He has just had a wee with no obvious signs of pain but he soon followed with a small amount of poo which looks different and a bit mucusie/stringgy greener rather than normal yellow. his bum is also looking a bit red, he has never had a nappy rash before and he is 4 months old.
Yes he has had a bath many times in the oil.
No temp a bit warm but usual from teething

The only thing different is he has been wearing greenies nappies and I bought the wrong barrier cream bepanthen antiseptic rather than the ointment so I don't know if they have anything to do with it?
Haven't eaten anything different either to cause nappy rash, he hasn't had his 2nd jabs yet.
I have booked him in to see the Doctor at 1:45 so hopefully he can do something?

Ps also I had been using wipes a little bit more than usual. I usually use cool boiled water and cotton wool but he has been pooing so much lately that I was just grabbing the wipes in stead. Could be that. Maybe some of the wipes solution has gone up?

Ok so the Doctor says Preston has a tight foreskin and that if he ends up getting a lot of UTI's he will need to be circumcised.
So he is on antibiotics now for a low grade uti, I caught it early.
I'm being pooed on and peed on as I'm trying to let him go nappy free for as long as possible lol.
Thanks Donna

I hope he doesn't need to be cricumcised. Glad you caught it early, hope he is doing better tomorrow.

Just a note to say that it would be worth getting an opinion from a doctor familiar with intact boys if there are any further problems. There is absolutely no way to diagnose a "tight foreskin" in baby boys unless it is physically obstructing the urine flow, and if you could see an open urethra I can't see how that would be the case. The normal foreskin is typically completely adherent in babies and toddlers (and sometimes well into school age).
