so today i drove dh to work for his first day back since dd was born ... dd had her feed before we got into the car and then when i got home she was half an hour away from her next feed
so OF COURSE i woke her up getting her out of her car seat :banghead:
she then cried for the next 15 minutes as i tried to see if she would fall back to sleep .... we have an appointment with the lactation consultant at the hospy today so i've had to try and time her feeds right this morning
just after some tips - how do you get your bub out of their car seat without waking them? she is in a convertible seat that faces backwards at the moment ....
any help greatly appreciated!

You should look into one of these...

The capsule clicks into the pram and the car as a restraint... And then the capsule acts as a bassinet so you can carry your baby around without disturbing him/her :)

I agree these are great! Without it, it will be virtually impossible not to wake your child when taking them out of the car seat.
its never been problem as when all mine were young we went out second day home and they got used to sleeping in their beds pram and car seat but if she was only 1/2hr from feed i would have fed her then put her down not criterising you please dont take it that way but capsules to me are a waste of money and time

I probably would have fed her too, then put her back to bed. Usually as they get older they will stay asleep when getting them in and out of their car seats. I'd say she just stayed awake as it was close to her feed time.
If it becomes a problem over the longer term then I would recommend hiring a capsule. We have one and we simply do not have this problem and never will. Bubby gets carted in and out of the car, into wherever we are going (restaurant, friends house, craft classes) and out again without being woken up - he just snoozes away.
We hired it for six months and will have to get a car seat after this. Its not about the money for us, its about the convenience. Its worth its weight in gold to us.
I had a convertible seat as well. i did find as ds got older that he would stay asleep when we took him out.
I found what helped was making sure that they still felt safe and secure when removing them. it is hard because you have to get around that blasted strap that is in the way and they sort of dangle for a bit. But just try and get them against you as quick and smoothly as possible. Try and make sure you aren't taking your baby out into bright sunlight as well - they hate that.
That's all I can think of. Sorry!

If they haven't got long to sleep sit in the car with a book and open all the doors to let air in. You get to have a guilt free sit and read.

We found capsules to be fantastic too.
If I needed to pop to the shop on the way home or to someone's house to visit, I could take him in the capsule and often have him back in the car sleeping away soundly - not even knowing that we had been out. Still all snug in his little blankets.
I could never have done this without the capsule.
I agree - the hire capsules are fantastic.... plus as mentioned above I kept a book or magazine in the car and I would sit and read for half an hour. Or if I had nothing to read, as we live near the ocean, I would park the car in a nice shady spot and admire the view.
You could always do a McDonalds drive through and get a coffee or something too...
I have a convertible car seat and found the first few times Cobey would wake up as he was put in/taken out of the seat, now he's gotten used to it and won't even bat and eyelid.. in fact I got home 1.5 hours ago, he was asleep, I put him into his cot and he's stayed there, fast asleep, ever since!! he's 7 weeks now.
Last night I did the same, pulled him out of the car seat at about midnight, gave him a dream feed, then he slept until 6.30am ;)
While the capsules are a good idea, I think perseverance pays off as well, I know that Cobey can be 'tossed around' while asleep and he stays that way.
(although I kinda wish i had a capsule as most of my friends are child-less and my relies have older kids.. gosh it would be nice to have somewhere to put bubby....)
Oh my speak of the devil................ :) :devil6:
(Actually, he was just talking on his sleep.......)
