Hi Everyone,

My name is Lisa and i have been reading the forums over the past couple of weeks and thought it was about time to write something!

I have only been TTC for 1 month, but my cycles have suddenly going haywire in the last 4 months: 39 days, 30 days, 47 days :banghead: and now i am waiting for AF on day 37 (have done a couple of HPT's and always BFN :(

I went off the pill in February this year and my cycle went back to 30 days and in the last 4 months it has been all over the place.
It is so frustrating and with cycles that long i dont even know if i am ovulating.

Does anyone know any good naturopaths or similar in the Brisbane area who would be able to help with regulating cycles? or ifanyone had any suggestions for regulating my cycle?

Thanks

Lisa

Have you been taking your BBT (Basal Body Temperature) at all? You can find out more information on it here: www.fertilityfriend.com

The only reason I ask is to establish if you are Ovulating or not. Some women do have irregular cycles but generally if you are ovulating I believe they are normally consistent within a few days.

If you record your BBT you will be able to see if you are infact Ovulating, best to find out for sure early into your TTC time.

Oh, and as for regulating your cycle try Vitex, it is made from a plant called the Chaste Berry, you can get it in different brands but Vitex seems to be the most popular. (my naturopath gave me one called Premular which is a bit purer)

I took it for about 4 months but it didnt help for me because I was not ovulating as I have PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome), I went off the pill in March this year and didnt ovulate until last month and that was because I was on a drug called Clomid which many with PCOS take to help them ovulate.

Just to note also you can still 'bleed' and not technically ovulate, its just the bleed is not technically menstration.

Not everyone with PCOS doesnt O although I believe most only O occasionally and others have very irregular cycles.

My two older sisters and I all have PCOS (it can run in families, if your sister has it you have a 50% chance of also having it). None of us are overweight, infact my two sisters are about 50kg, if not a bit less and I would class almost underweight... i am 65kg (165cm tall, 27% body fat).
Neither of them regularly ovulate, i know one of them has not had a period in years. I dont know what I will be like but in the 6 months after going off the pill I didnt ovualte at all. The good news is the one who hasnt ovulated in years has had 2 healthy clomid babies (now 9 and 6!). My eldest sister also has probelms with her utirine lining and cant seem to get it to build up enough to sustain a pregnancy... :fingerscrossed: for her still though...

Its just something you should look into if you have PCOS.

I have never had the blood work done to say that I have PCOS. But, I think that I do.( many of the signs) I ovulate but not every cycle. The way I know if it was a ovulatory cycle or not (is of course signs of ovulation) but I usually know by how my period is. When I have a anovulatory cycle it is light for 2 to 3 days and I don't have any pms prior to it. (no sore bbs, no cramps, nothing at all). However when I do ovulate I will have a heavier bleed for 5 days and cramps, bloating, and the whole bit. Of course I never know for sure until I have the other signs that point to O. I also have very long cycles and a bit sporadic, anywhere from 35 days to 44 days. I am on day 39 now and feel it coming though.
