View Full Version : Cows Milk Or Follow on Formula?
I was wondering if you could advise me if and when I should be giving my baby cows milk, bubby is 1 at the end of this month and has been formula fed for 3 weeks now ,i breast fed from birth but she has just weaned herself...Does cows milk really have enough goodness in it for babies, or would it be better to stay on follow on formula?
Also if a baby goes off their food, and just seems to want milk is cows milk or formula better?
With DD I changed straight over to cows milk when she turned 1, like it was a magical number! It took a bit to get used to that first bottle, but she was fine after that. I just made sure she also ate healthily too.
Not sure with the nutrition side of things if exclusively milk fed - I'd be speaking with your GP or CHN as they need all the vitamins, minerals etc from foods also.
I've just started giving DS Cows Milk - He is one on Monday :crying:
Hes been fine with it so far no worries :).
If your baby is eating find and a variety of foods then there is no need for Toddler formula, they are getting lots of nutrients through there food. I have known people who have started their babies on cows milk at 9 months, although I didn't start my DS1 till 12 months, and as soon as one tin finished I change him over to cows milk. From 9 months however I did use milk in his cooking and cereal. I will be doing the same for DS2.

Bubs can start to have cow’s milk from around one year of age. If you have any reason to suspect a cow’s milk allergy, or there is a family history of dairy allergies or intolerance, it is best to discuss this with your doctor.
If your little one is eating a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates and protein, supplemented toddler formulas are generally not necessary. However, if your toddler does not eat a range of foods or does not seem to be growing and gaining weight adequately, a toddler formula may be required – this should be discussed with your doctor or a paediatric dietitian.
