View Full Version : What is Broome like?
I've just heard that in my dh's second year of employment we will have to relocate to Broome for the year. What is it like? I have two kids, one of 6 and one of 3.
We have friends who have Just moved to Karatha and apparently Broome is quite nice, I don't know much about the place myself, but 'Cable Beach' is a beautiful place to see apparently.
We're hoping to also be heading to Karatha soon, just waiting to hear back about the job... so frustraiting!
Broome is amazing. If you can keep away from the touristy crud. Cable beach is waaay overrated though. Roebuck bay side is much nicer. Cables is just a massive massive beach, and sometimes you have to walk out 200m to get water deeper than your knees cos of the tides, lol! It's a really beautiful, chilled out place though. Lots of multiculturlism, lots of interesting people. We always go in summer, when it is really hot and humid there as there are virtually no tourists. I would never go in our winter though, apparently it gets really overcrowded and gross.
I'm so jealous, I'd love to live in Broome.
We've been there twice, loved it so much got married there. It's very laid back. The weather is tropical, so humid.
However, as we all know, enjoying a holiday there and living there are 2 different things.
I've heard that it has a "cyclone season" - is this as bad as it sounds?
hey.. my Dh and i used to live up that way, well, in a town called fitzroy crossing which was about 400km from broome, but anyhow.... yeah, we used to go there alot, i loved it! not so much in the wet season as its rather sticky and humid and cyclone season at that time, there can be cylones there, and we did at one stage was in a middle of one when we where there on holiday, just stay in doors and wait for the all clear thats what we did, so, other than that, its nice, bit touristy though, but i enjoyed it! i loved the beach, its beatiful (there is a really nice restarant there too up on the hill at the cable beach its family friendly too, cheap and really good!!) hope you enjoy your move, and dont worry too much about the cyclones.. they pass!
