Hey guys far along into pregnancy can you start drinking raspberry leaf tea? I am 15 weeks along and want to start toning my uterus :) I hear you can start on one cup a day earlier on right? All the websites say towards the end of third trimester but I have read of some hubbers taking it throughout their pregnancy. Ta! :)

I have heard that you can, but not 100% sure sorry. I've always started at 30 weeks. Maybe ask your Ob?

Raspberry leaf has been shown to reduce labor pains, speed up delivery and reduce bleeding. If you plan on using it during labor, I recommend just drinking the raspberry leaf tea without the rosehips or spearmint. There is agreement among many clinicians that in the 3rd trimester frequent is beneficial to the uterine and pelvic muscles. The more radical stance is that drinking one cup of tea per day in the 1st trimester and 2 cups in the 2nd trimester and switching to the infusion in the 3rd trimester ensures a strong uterus, is good for you nutritionally and prevents miscarriage. Some say it is advised to not use it in the first trimester, particularly if you have a history of miscarriage.

I found too much conflicting information about using it in early pregnancy, so decided to wait until my third trimester. I decided to take the tablets rather than the tea as it was summer and didn't want to consume hot drinks all day.

There are only one or two very small studies. There is absolutely no evidence it 'tones' anything at all. Most likely it helps the uterine muscle relax properly so that it can contract more strongly when it needs to, which is why it reduces the risk of preterm labour and slightly shortens the second stage.

Maybe I have been reading the wrong info and my ob was a moron, but I got told when I was pg with DD1 that it is a natural way to induce labour and not to have it until 36 weeks?

So many different opinions out there. I was told to take the tablets from 34 weeks so 6 weeks leading up to the birth and for around the same time after for my first, doing the same again now. Good luck.

Lots of conflicting information out there. I personally started drinking organic, loose leaf raspberry leaf tea at 18 weeks last pregnancy and around 21 weeks this pregnancy (only due to laziness). I think, generally speaking naturopaths and those trained in alternative medicine advocate use in 2nd and 3rd trimesters, with more mainstream practioners suggesting late pregnancy only. I personally have a lot more faith in alternative medicine than I do conventional so I went with them.

I started the tablets at 30 weeks, no issues and had a short easy labour. (this was my first baby was in labour for 8hrs from first contraction to his birth)
