Hi,
My DD is refusing her milk.
Up until a week ago she was drinking approx 450ml of cows milk a day as well as cheese and yoghurt. The last week she has refused milk either from a bottle or from a cup.
How much milk should she be drinking a day?
Should I be cutting down on her yoghurt and cheese to encourage her to drink milk or can the cheese and yoghurt satisfy her dietary needs for dairy without milk???

Dear Bub2luv,

Do not be too concerned if your toddler has lost interest in her milk – it is probably only temporary. If she is having other forms of dairy such as custard, yoghurt and cheese every day, this can replace the milk. In general, approximately 1 cup of milk a day is adequate for children 1-2 years old.

It may seem unusual that she has suddenly stopped having milk, but the way that you react to this can make the difference between a passing phase and a bigger problem. Continue to offer a drink of milk when you typically would. If your daughter refuses, simply take it away again. Avoid persisting, encouraging, forcing and bribing – don’t let milk or other foods become an issue of control or conflict.
