Heya,
I have a 9 month old son who loves to eat. Til now though I feed him unless it's a bicky or cheese.
He eats at the moment Weetbix & fruit puree for breaky, Custard & rice cereal for lunch and mashed vegies for dinner (becuase of our lives and animals etc his dinner meals I make in advance and freeze so I can just defrost and then heat to give to him - our lives are definately different). With his vegies he eats Potato, Pumpkin, spinach, carrots, broc, sweet pot and mince or chicken.

I was wondering what ideas people had for easy finger foods that I can give him so he can feed himself as he seems to love it when he can put his own dinner in his mouth.

I just have no idea and not sure how to prepare them for him either.
Thanks for you help.

Hi Suziebear,
My DD loves to feed herself -
- little pieces of pasta - I boil up about 1 - 2 cups and keep them in a little container in the fridge for a couple of days.
- miniature wholemeal sandwiches - avocado is a favourite, as it also helps keep the bread together ;) . I just make a regular sandwich and cut it into tiny triangles
- dried fruit (rehydrated as I read somewhere it is better that way - can't remember why) especially prunes, and sultanas
- chunks of regular fruit as long as it's fairly soft eg. banana, mango, orange, etc.
- pieces of grated cheese
- chunks of steamed veges (cooled down of course), especially sweet potato. Brussels sprouts are also a fave (can you believe that? ). green beans, carrot, whatever you can think of.
- rice cakes - these are great especially with a topping like avocado and/or banana
- grissini (breadsticks)

hmmm...I can't think of anything else right now, but I only give bub a couple of pieces of finger food as too many at once tends to overwhelm her. Oh, and it seems like there is a bit of mess no matter what I give her!!!
Sometimes I give her some finger food and she seems happy to have it in her hands while I shovel her "real" meal into her. Very sneaky of me.... :D

I used to give ds some rusks or crusts to chew on, melon of any sort (espesially watermelon) cut into small pieces, grapes, cherry tomatos cut in 1/2,.

I agree, don't overwhelm bub with too much at once. Little is always best!
