I need some help..... We are wanting to get our boys christened around Christmas time but have no idea where to start....

We both don't go to church - does this matter?? I still have my belief but DH is not a church goer and I don't like to force him to be.....

We are also different religions - has anyone been in this prediciment before? How did you choose?

Questions questions questions!!!

Firstly you need to decide which religion you'd like your children Christened/Baptised into.
Obviously your church would prefer that you went to Mass but it's not a prerequisite to getting your child Christened.
When we had our boys Baptised I gave the parish office a call and they gave me dates available for Baptisms. I booked a specific date and then we went to the Baptism meeting along with the other families whose children were being Baptised and the co-ordinator and Father took us through the ceremony and spoke a little about what Baptism into the Catholic faith means.
I'm a Catholic but my DH is not, technically he's been Christened into the Uniting church but our boys are Catholic. He was fine with the boys being Catholic anyway.
The way we chose was...DH isn't a church-goer or particularly religious.
I, on the other hand, have a very strong faith and never thought that our children would be anything other than Catholic - for us it simply wasn't an issue.
Good luck and Congratulations - A Christening is such a special occasion!!

My DH is a catholic and I am Anglican. I can't help you out regarding a religious service as we have chosen not to go this way. Instead, we have decided we will have a naming ceremony which will be non religious. It will be done by a celebrant (we were married the same way due to the different religions).
We plan to have it in a nice setting, like some of the places that they hold weddings at. Even a small chapel would be nice if we can find one.
It will basically be the same as a christening but without the religious part.

Same as Mamaduke for the most part. My husband's family are Catholic whilst mine are fairly 'neutral'. I, in fact. have never been baptised. We were both more than happy to have our son baptised under the Catholic faith and the fact that I was never baptised was of no issue to the church.

We found a lovely Catholic church near us and booked a date and went to a 2 hour pre-event meeting which talked about the faith and the importance of the baptism.

My MIL and I went shopping for an outfit for bub, a christening bib and a candle and the day went without a hitch. Lovely.

Is it different for religions other than Catholic??? I was christened Uniting (but used to attend a Baptist Church) and my DH was Christened Presbyterian....

We were going to have a naming ceremony (as someone suggested) to eliviate (sp?) the "choosing" of the religion but this deeply upsetted some family members and well to be truthful I have always wanted to get my children christened....

Do you think I can get them christened baptist even though neither of us are christened as Baptist??

Im Anglican and DF is Greek Orthodox and we had DS christened orthodox too.

Its not usually an issue if u don't go to church, u just need to decide on the religeon u want ur children christened and contact your local church. They will be able to give u all the details.

U then need to decide if you want alot of ppl or just a small number of guests because this usually affects the location of the party/gathering afterwards. We had 180 people (big families!! ) so we had the party afterwards at my In-laws because they live in a huge mansion with a couple of acres!

Once u've got ur guest list u can make invitations or buy them and just fill in the names. And then u need to get ur boys their outfits (don't have to be gowns or anything! DS wore a cute black pin stripe suit!) And ur pretty much good to go! Hope that helps abit!
